Black Ops Issues - Help plz?

Unread postby Ash_Williams » 21 Jan 11, 10:21 pm

My game is crashing on startup. I double click the icon as usual and the game just goes to a blank screen and crashes.

I'm running Windows 7 Professional SP1 (SP1 off Technet) and it was working earlier but now it would seem to have stopped. I can get anything someone might need but I've done the following to attempt to fix it.

- Defrag Files
- Verify Files
- Deleting Local Content of both SP and MP
- Reinstalling via Steam
- Uninstalling via Disc
- Reinstalling via Disc (all content on PC deleted)

And still no luck.

Suggestions?

Is it just Black Ops crashing or is Steam crashing as well? Is it just Black Ops?

I had an issue where Steam would crash when I tried to run any game and I fixed it by reinstalling Steam.

Its just Black Ops crashing. I've just tried reinstalling Steam and forgot the fact it deletes every game. So I'm having a fun 15 hours recovering 500GB of games >_<

If it doesn't work after this I'm going to throw a brick through Treyarch's front window.

Did I recommend updating DX and you said you already did? Somebody deleted my post (Whoever deleted my post didn't move it to deleted posts\threads or send a courtesy pm).

I get a crash in blackops after around 2 or 3 rounds or 20 minutes of single player. Generally dxgkrln.dll or a dll with ati in the file name will crash. I found a hotfix for vista\win7 directly relating to dxgkrnl.dll however when I tried to install it it claimed the hotfix did not need applying to my system. I'm not too worried about it, I usually get bored and quit before the game crashes.

I assume you've tried lowering all your ingame settings, changing resolution, changing graphics quality settings in windows tools (ati\nv tools)..etc.. changed AA and AS settings and all those kinds of things?

Yep.

I got sick of trying to work out the problem so I reinstalled Windows, which I've been meaning to do forever anyways.

What have Steam said about the issue? Have you contacted them yet?

Steam didn't give me any help. And no wouldn't work in safemode. I think it was caused by 7 SP1 so I think I'll wait for its proper public release before I install it again.

Doesn't much bother me anyways, my desktop needed a good format.
