Portal 2

Wasn't sure where to post this.

If you play Portal 2 on PS3, you can play with people on a PC. Neat! And to make sure as many people as possible are doing just that, the PS3 version of the game will include the PC version.

All players have to do once they get the game is link their PlayStation Network and Steam accounts. Once that's done, they'll have a Steam Play (so, PC and/or Mac) version of the game ready to download in their library list.

This cross-platform play even extends to giving PS3 users the ability to chat to PC gamers, and vice-versa. Oh, and PS3 users can even save their game in the Steam Cloud, meaning Valve has them tucked away in their servers in case something ever goes horribly wrong with your PS3.

That's a whole lot of "firsts" for both Steam, the PC multiplayer service of choice, and Sony's PlayStation Network. Not to mention a free copy of the game you can, for example, take with you on a laptop when you're not on your couch with the PS3.

And if all this works, and works well, let us welcome out glorious cross-platform future with open arms!

What I find hilarious is that XBOX Live, a service people actually pay for... running on a Direct X gaming console, has such a locked down online network that they can't enable this. Seems like Steam on PS3 is a reality. It's a great day for PS3 gamers that's for sure.

I'd say getting it on PS3 will get you the PC/Mac version via a key, or just by simple activation on your PSN/Steam account. But not the other way around. Especially if its a Blu-Ray release. Once the system is working properly I doubt it will be a regular occurrence for Valve games anyway. I'd say Steam on PS3 wont be a download service like PSN, more of a networking thing.

Sweet **** lord this is just amazing.

Props to Gabe and Valve. They have done it again.

Had no intention of buying it on PS3 but because the PC copy is thrown in, I shall support this glorious movement!

I wonder if they can further inter-twine both Steam and PSN like linking between the two profiles /gushes with excitment

Nice!

So if I get Portal 2 on PS3, I'll have the option to play split screen or have my bro at the PS3 while I'm on the PC. Ha!

Not with multilayer, but you "can" use steam on multiple PC's with the same credentials.

Darn it! Just read on co-optimus that the PS3 copy of Portal 2 (and all PS3 valve games I assume) is linked to steam. That really blows.

We don't know how the second copy will work just yet. If you are simply issued a code to your account its possible you can redeem it with another Steam account or gift it?
