Hey its not like the US didn't do the same thing in the past 2 world wars right?

they were an ally to britain etc in ww1 hence their involvement there and they only formally entered ww2 when they were attacked by japan, it wasn't like they jumped in for sh!ts and giggles

If the war was going to extend beyond the Korean peninsula it would most likely be in the form of a multitude of smaller proxy wars. Countries like Syria, Egypt, Lebanon and Iran using the US being distracted by the engagement in Korea to launch a strike against Israel.

China wouldn't like the idea of US troops occupying NK, but then again the US probably doesn't like the idea of occupying NK either. It's also probably wouldn't be necessary since SK has more than enough manpower to do that.

a question that gets raised here is when did the wars get recognized as 'world wars', my understanding was that until WW2, WW1 was called the 'Great War', it may very well have kept that name had america not been involved and world war 3 wouldn't necessarily need china to be involved, but it would require the majority of the planet being involved and I just don't see europe getting involved which is my original point,

pretty sure they weren't called world wars at the time of the war.

whether it is a world war or not would most likely be judged after the conflict ended, unless nearly every country got involved. personally i don't think it could be called a world war unless 2 of the bigger powers were involved (america, russia, china, most of EU as a group).

WW1 = THe Great War by Europeans
WW2 = The Patriotic War by Russians

Names are just labels use to simplify complicated things.

I don't think we should lose sight of the fact that technically the north & south have been at war for 60 years. Only an Armistice agreement is stopping them launching missiles on each other. The US/South Korean war-games are not going to help the situation, specifically because Kim Jong-Il is completely irrational about everything. It's just escalating the situation as is.. To have this sorted out is going to require either a conflict or a social and economic collapse in DPRK.

At this stage, i don't understand why people are bringing WW2 into this.. It may have been relevant, giving context as to the current situation, however it can no longer be considered a causative factor.

Well actually the first world war was, until the second world war, known as the great war.

60 years that are drastically different in terms of effect on both side though,

on the north side they r still struggling with food even given their budget allocation and economic level, on the south SK strength in terms of industry and economic power is obvious though they have fragile concentration that can be damaged in a war.

military wise on the north they are bitter still of the outcome of the korean war and massed large numbers of AAA, SAM (though most are cold war era hardwares) to avoid the previous war outcome, while modernized korean and cold war era tanks (a good number of which were used in the previous war) makes up the bulk of their mechanized infantry and armor (as modern as one can upgrade 50-60 years old tank anyway) supplemented by a large number of SPGs and locally built rocket artillery along with their 1million active troops.

the south on the other hand went from their pitiful state in korean war where they practically have no substantial hardwares and barely 100 thousand troops to roughly the equivalent of EU military level technology wise with over 600 thousand active troops, supplemented by US hardwares bought to bolster with anything they can't locally manufacture.

so the north roughly outnumbers the south by 2 to 1 including hardware amount but in return they are roughly 30 years behind in terms of hardware technology.

SK performing live fire drills in the same sport that kicked of all the shenanigans last time, in an hours time. Will find out if NK is going to stand by their statements.

Apparently, they're aiming SW, away from DPRK .. still, as if that matters from the DPRK's point of mind, or lack of mind ..

supposedly the exercises are over, with no response from DPRK (yet).

aside: every time I see "DPRK" it makes me giggle a bit.

in my opinion it looks like this.

the north has been prodding and poking the south for years, doing all sorts of **** and the south has done **** all in return, after this arty incident the south is finally showing some of its teeth and now the north will back down. nothing will happen.
