Because it's infrared based, I'd say it's the same issue direct(ish) sunlight can have. Screws with the spectrum the device is trying to measure.

wow WE HAte ANYTHING THAT ISN'T PC rarararar, this site is full of PC fanboys its almost too obvious if it wasn't for the fact they cleverly disguise it under a vale of maturity.

No need to get mad because things with more then 16 buttons confuse you.

saying something works flawlessly, then immediately saying that it doesn't, is indeed a contradiction, or a paradox if you prefer. your indignancy is misplaced.

it is a good thing to know however that sunlight can be bad for it. is it just direct sunlight onto the cameras? or also if the cameras are shaded and the subjects are under direct sunlight?

Fair call TheScientist, sorry ShaolinSalesman. I should have elaborated by saying it was the delay that was flawless, in the games I have tried.

Direct sunlight in the room is an issue, not just on the camera, I'm guessing it's all that extra infrared. But in other lighting conditions even in the dark it works a treat.

lols don't actually have one nor do I want one :P but I was under the impression that it suffered from delays, lots of comment indicate as much

so i ended up getting a kinect. it was basically free with an xbox and a bunch of airpoints.

my experience so far: it's ****. to get it to work in the menu i can spend ages standing there waving like an idiot. tried to get it to do auto signin, after doing its setup it helpfully informed me that i couldn't be signed in and it recommended running the setup to get it to work.

turns out in a warm room (as is prone to happen in an australian summer) using a spoon that was cold because i was eating ice cream with it was the best way to get it to sense my "hand" properly. So basically it lacks contrast for summer use unless your house is cooler than you (assuming it is infrared; and my qualitative evidence supports that).

I also tried the rafting kinect adventure game. It was dull, and i run the risk of decapitation by ceiling fan should i play too enthusiastically.

Interacting with the zune menu was a nightmare too, because it would start autoplaying video clips and interfere with my hand gestures so i couldn't progress to the next page or exit out. I had to swap back to a normal controller (not to mention i had to stand up and get closer to it in order to help it get enough contrast on me, related to above problems).

All in all, not terribly happy with it, but it's probably better to have it if/when I sell the xbox. And now i can finally do xbox sundays with my mates.
