If they have downloaded it already then yes. Just make sure you both have steam closed at the time. Also - backup your own config files.

Why have both closed? I was just going to copy paste certain map files etc across?

You'd have to copy the whole lot across because it is quite possible that the update isn't just a DLC update but contains other smaller changes to key files; files which wont be map files or such, for example there will be a changed menu and god knows which file that is in.

Ok so I should be able to just copy paste across his l4d folder to mine and then re paste my config folder to overwrite his and all should be good?
