Australian based players on European servers.

Unread postby Curved » 22 Sep 10, 9:52 am

Just moved to Australia from the UK and I was wondering how many players out there are using the European servers? I've been playing the game for 4 years now and restarting from stratch on a new server is not very appealing. Raiding is going to be interesting (6am raid times) and was wondering if there are any Aussie guilds / players about that raid in the Aussie evening? I am on the Darkmoon Faire server.

I'd assume they're very rare. The raid times are terrible and the ping is way worse then the US servers. It can be difficult to even find aussie guilds on US servers after oceanic servers opened.

There's also the issue of having to import a copy of WoW from Europe in order to have a European account. I don't think you'll find many, if any. Besides a few Aussie ex-pats who are based in Europe.

It'd be nice if Blizz let you realm transfer your toons to US/Oceanic realms from European. I can't imagine you're the first who's made such a physical move.

Probably abou tht eonly place you'll find that deals directly with Australia is CDWoW. Would be nice if you could transfer accounts etc across - you'd think the 2 sevrer farms would have some sort of actual connection :P.

You can actually just edit a setting in one of the main WoW files to switch it to EU version.

Still, US servers have enough lag, I'd hate to think what a EU server would be like.

That doesn't change your account to a US account though.

Yep yep, just the client. But it's definitely better than having to buy a 2nd copy of something when you already have it.

Yeah, but if you're going to change your client to US from EU you would need to buy a new copy of WoW anyhow to set up an account.

A mate and I logged into the european servers some time ago, he was say he just modified settings in the WTF folder and the config file.
Lines like:

SET locale "enUS"
SET portal "us"
SET patchlist "us.version.worldofwarcraft.com"

Hope this can help.

EDIT: ping was bad, very bad, like 800-1200ms
