Please help, netgear dg834pn will not work for xbox!!

Unread postby reddeadted » 26 Aug 10, 11:24 pm

Hey,

So I have tried everything, port forwarding, dmz, static ip, and i cannot for the life of me get my xbox to connect.

In network settings the router is connected to my wireless receiver and when i switch the router on and off it picks it up on the xbox but it will not connect to xbox live.

I have called internode and netgear and both are not interested. i have tried portforward.com, reset the router numerous times and messed around with so many different settings that i am now a router genius haha except that i can't bloody get my xbox online!!!
It's driving me crazy, can anyone please help.
or should i just get a new router?

I'm guessing you tried this

http://support.xbox.com/support/en/us/n ... aring.aspx

and double check to see if you have typed you network password right.

e.g. uppercase and lowercase.

Thank you for the suggestion! I tried the link out but i have a macbook and although there is a similar function it doesn't seem to work either.
It's so strange, my xbox is connected to the router, they both show each other under connection, but it just won't get past the first part of the xbox connection point.
I don't know, i feel like i've tried everything

You could also try connecting the 360 and your router via ethernet cable. If that doesn't work then your router is most likely borked and you'll need a new one.
DRM is like kids. The less you have, the better.

quick update: i downloaded the software update from netgears website and then resest xbox to factory settings, moved the xbox to the floor (from my tv stand) and it connected!
If anyone else has this problem my advice would be to do those things.
I found that moving the xbox closer, even though it was only a metre or so, made a huge difference.
It seem silly but i've been testing it and just moving it that small bit takes the network bars from one or two red bars to full green bars. I'm not entirely certain if the handset has any bearing on this but i sort of think that that might be part of it too(when i move the xbox to the floor i am also moving it away from where i play and therefore the handset cannot interfere maybe)
Anyway, thanks for the help, links and ideas!
I can finally waste my life playing video games online haha call of duty here i come!

glad its working, but moving a metre should not give you that huge of a connection increase... unless maybe you are right on the edge of the limit, or are going through a number of thick walls.

also your controller is not interfering with your wireless network.
