Hands-on: Civilization V

Unread postby News Portal » 6 Aug 10, 12:13 pm

Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me you ears. It is a new era, the surrounding lands spread in new and unimagined directions – it is time to build a great civilisation to stand the test of time! Sid Meier's epic world-conquering franchise has been the undisputed master of turn-based strategy PC gaming since the original title in 1990, spawning dozens of expansions, sequels and homages. I must confess, I've wasted many hundreds of hours conquering virtual empires over the decades. I'm happy to report that the latest iteration, [app=7452]Civilization V[/app], has proven just as compelling and addictive. Read on to see why.

Oh good God this is gonna rock. Goodbye uni, goodbye wife, goodbye kids: you all suck compared to Civ.

I still don't understand how an army unit can blockade several Kilometers of the earth.

Or why you would build a small part of you're farm on the other side of a massive river.

Or why a city's scale is so large on the planet, those cities in reality would be nothing but dots from that high a view.

I know i'm asking for a RUSE/CIV5 intallation to the series
but what if the scale of Units and cities was realistic like Ruse and not exaggerated like CIV games, when you zoom out they would get larger to aid you in seeing them like in RUSE...

All in all they could have taken it a step further, by showing the true scale of the planet, rather then keeping enormous placeholders for people and buildings at all zoom levels.

I can't work out how changing from 8 possible movement directions to 6 is increased mobility. :?

8? Up, down, left right is 4.

You couldn't move diagonally in Civ, could you?

Can be done by clicking (right clicking in Civ 4 and I think Civ 3) the direction or using the Num-pad which is usually how I did it in the first and second Civ's.
