3DS dev costs may prohibit shovelware

Bless the DS, for it has surely earned its place as the best-selling console of all time by being well-featured, infinitely usable, and solid as a rock - even if it took countless hardware revisions to get there. But curse it with your next breath, because its thrifty development costs are responsible for a ridiculous amount of embarrassing, reputation-damaging, bargain-bin-clogging shovelware.

Not the 3DS! [comp=39]Nintendo[/comp] president Satoru Iwata has admitted the costs of creating software for the 3D-ready handheld approach that of the Wii.

Nobody forces you to buy shovelware.

Correct. However, if the shovelware to good stuff ratio tilts too far in the shovelware direction, it reduces the wish to shovel through the garbage in the hope that you'll find a gem. That's the big problem with the DS/Wii at the moment I think. (I haven't bought a new DS game in ages)
