We Don't Need Roads
Visuals: Obviously inspired by the hover-conversions of the
Back to the Future series, the car's wheels fold up, engines sprout from boot area and the vehicle lifts off the road - although it only hovers a few meters above the surface (it doesn't actually "fly", per se).
Handling: While in this state, the car handles similar to a
WipEout hover-ship.
Benefits: Increased speed & maneuverability. Ability to avoid ground-level weaponry and effortlessly overtake earth-bound opponents.
Risks: While airborne, you are very vulnerable to area or targeted attacks. Being hit causes the car to spectacularly crash back to earth, completely out of control. To balance this huge risk, the driver can terminate the flight at any time. The car is not nearly as badly affected by airborne/targeted attacks during take-off and landing sequences, although being hit during take-off will prematurely cancel the flight (power-up is lost).
Usage: Single-use, on-demand. Lasts for 5 seconds or until interrupted, excluding take-off & landing time (a couple of seconds each way, during which there is no speed bonus).
EDIT: Fingers (and toes) crossed for a 360 obviously, but if I get runners-up I'd prefer the PS3 version - that way I can give it to a family member.
