Aion on Steam

Unread postby Dexterian » 3 Aug 09, 4:32 pm

I downloaded Aion via Steam and I have to say it's pretty damn messy!

I can't even find the exe for the game so that I can configure my mouse or Creative X-Fi speakers accordingly...

I've gone through the steam folder and found no aion.exe, even looking at task manager I can't find the process to which this game is running from... wtf?

Use your brain to look elsewhere on your HDD? Or perhaps you could google your problem to see if anyone else in the world has a similar problem. Seeing as how the game has been available from steam for some time now, I'd say it's quite likely you'll find your answer somewhere on the internet. If you had posed this question shortly after the game was made available, I'd have been a little more forgiving. :P

Burn. :)

Although I agree with Dex, as a Steam distribution, it's pretty bloody useless - all you are downloading is the installer, pretty much everything else is handled externally. Completely defeats the purpose of a Steam distro, IMO.

Worse (and they may have fixed this since I downloaded), unless you modify the installer path before installing, it redownloads everything all over again as it doesn't expect the files to be where Steam put them. If you have half a brain in your head, it's not too hard to work it out, but it will cause a hell of a lot o grief come release if the process isn't streamlined.

Nice one smart arse. Don't you think I tried that before posting?

I found nothing.

That's why I came here, hoping to find someone with the answer rather than without one :)
And if there isn't an EXE for the game, then perhaps maybe a way around it.

I've even tried my hardest to have a thorough look through other possible directories and I've yet to find an answer to my problem anywhere on the internet!

Fixed that for you. :P

wait do you mean to say if i buy it on steam and start downloading it, it only downloads the launcher/patcher type program, and then all the game data comes from that on the NCsoft servers and not through Steam? just wondering because i want to make sure i get the whole game from steam unmetered if i buy it digitally, otherwise i'll have to get it retail.

You get the whole game from Steam. It installs the game and then when you run the steam shortcut it installs the NCSoft Launcher which you run Aion from. Also all updates come via the NCSoft Launcher.

Yeah it's a pretty crappy distribution if you ask me. Hopefully this gets fixed or something upon release as it confused the f**k out of me as to how it all worked out.

ah ok so the main game data is from steam but then updates are done via the ncsoft launcher instead. thats not too bad, would be nice if it was fully integrated with steam though.

Uhuh, sure. So you're telling me that when you run the game it doesn't run the SETUP?
Steam keeps your AION up to date? yeah?
No I don't think so.

Please. Clearly you have no idea what you're doing or talking about.
