TF2 seems to crash constantly for me every 10 mins or so when it does the death animation or when the sniper rifle unscopes and reloads. This has been happening for months now and it drives me absolutely crazy, no patch to date has resolved the issue.

Specs:
Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4600+
1G ram
Geforce 7950GT
SB Audigy
latest drivers for everything
I do not have an anti virus installed

It doesn't seem to matter what settings I use it will crash regardless, ive tried with and without the dual core commands, windowed vs full screen, dxlevel 80 vs. 90. I have also tried disabling programs as per the sticky and to date not one thing has made a difference. What the hell am I doing wrong?Anyone else experience(d) this?

yep

doing some testing and thinking back, probably 90% of the crashes occur during the sniper animation either when im playing one, or speccing one when dead.

I have also verified the game files and reinstalled a number of times

Anyone else getting an FPS hit after this latest update? It's odd, normally I get around 100 FPS, and at least 60 in amongst all the action...but now it goes all the way down to 20-40, which is really odd.

Might have a poke around on Steam forums...

Specs in sig.

When the server changes map TF2 comes up with an error and crashes, cant remember what error but its a pain. I have to reload it every time. I never had this problem before, i just reformatted to vista from Dual booting never had this problem before on XP. When i reformatted i just copied the steam folder into vista.

ok I'm out to win hugest newb, but where are the Screenies saved?

I game on a laptop with re-assigned function keys so I'm not sure its working and I can't find them in the Steam folders anywhere.

Have you verified the steam cache files?
Tried defraging them?
Checked driver versions?
Exact words of the error should be google to check for other people with your problem and their solutions.
Is it a GFX related error? A file error? etc.

..\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\<you>\team fortress 2\tf\screenshots

Failing that, seach for *.tga and they should show up.

Anyone that feels they have an FPS issue, try the following:

Steam forums wrote:if your going to complain about performance, then do it with numbers and system specs.

Run This Timedemo: http://rapidshare.com/files/113830331/benchmark2.dem.html

Then post your system specs and framerate:

Q6600
8800GT 512mb
1280x1024@max dx9

11898 frames 194.495 seconds 61.17 fps (16.35 ms/f) 7.905 fps variability

to run the timedemo place it here:
C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\<accountname>\team fortress 2\tf

then in the console type timedemo benchmark2

Mine:

E6400 @ 2.9ghz
8800GT @ 650/1900 (174.93 drivers - really good increase in 3DMark with these)
3GB DDR2 667 RAM (4GB total, but in XP can only use 3GB)
XP Pro SP3

All settings maxed out, with a special ultra high settings config.

11898 frames 232.081 seconds 51.27 fps (19.51 ms/f) 7.418 fps variability

Should be getting a lot more than that..and why does the demo play so weird? It like runs in fast forward except if you look at the timer, its still going at normal speed...doesn't make much sense.

Because its timing how long it takes for your PC to complete the demo, hence the name "timedemo".

Faster/better configured PC's will playback the demo in a shorter amount of time.

My bad..copied a post from the Steam forums, and it was truncated..anyway here's the proper one: http://rapidshare.com/files/113830331/b ... 2.dem.html

And Acaila, yeah I realise that :P It's just that the timer goes down normally, and is quite strange..

Anyway, I'm going to run it again and see if my FPS has actually improved with the last few updates.

[edit] Well what do you know, actually a slight improvement :P
