Your better off lifting the monitors up.. most desks without a monitor shelf seem to place your monitors 10-20cm to low anyhow..
A few GFX card boxes (laying flat) and a plank of timber (or 3 floorboards) cut to length make a good shelf for monitors, I use a set of shelves turned sideways so I can sit things on top.
(theres a pic floating arround here somewhere)

If you dont want to lift your monitors up...
Get yourselves some of the tubes you get scotch bottles in..
Glenfiddich works well and is nice to drink as well.

Fill them with sand or rice. I prefer rice as it makes less mess but brickies sand weighs more.
Mount speakers to top of tubes, I punch holes in the metal lids, run cable tie through then glue the lids on.
You may need a door wedge or two to cut down if your speakers do not have an adjustable tilt on their feet.
Now your speakers should sit poking just above the top of a standard 24" lcd.
If you have falling over issues (ie your clumbsy and smash the **** out of your desk) try seating the tubes in large milo tins.

Awesome idea Bluefire! I drink most of those brands, so I'll try and keep a couple for next time :)

About time I posted my rig's up here!

I'm no perfectionist, and all my cameras are lousy, but I'm happy with how it's all turned out :)

That LANbox is great! I'd be slightly worried about easily damaged components, but damn it's cool :P

What're you using to get the separate wallpapers and taskbar on both monitors?

Sorry to jump in, but there's a few programs that do that.
I use DisplayFusion, but UltraMon has worked well for me in the past too.

I used that once, on my 'old' PC, it was pretty good, didn't / still kind of don't have the money to buy it though and the free version didn't do what I wanted so I uninstalled it. Might look back into it. (when I replace my current secondary monitor with an identical of my primary).

Pretty sure the free version lets you do the wallpaper thing, but not sure what else.

Thanks for the comments guys, the lanbox is my pride and joy, I got half way though the build when I realised the custom built-in PSU didn't have enough connections for the graphics, two hard drives and the fan controller. So I improvised. :P It's so nice to bring my entire setup from car to house in one trip (two if I'm being cautious).

The screen thing is indeed the fabled UltraMon, it just makes everything easier, I especially like the feature that saves the positions of desktop icons. I hate having to reorganise when resolution changes.
