I'd happily pay that for convenience of just being able to buy them on steam without worrying about getting them gifted or importing a copy. It's nowhere near on the level of annoyance of adding $30 - $50 to a game.

It's unreasonable to think people are just going to stop buying games that they want to play, clearly the price isn't hindering that

Which is exactly why nothing is going to change and statements like 'i don't mind' piss me right off.

Yes sir, I'll pay more because everyone else in this establishment is blind to the fact you're charging less down the street for the exact same experience.

Continue on accepting paying more than everyone else is acceptable because... you're dumb enough to pay it?

Blindly accepting? Nice premature conclusion you reached after some good research on my opinion, because I'm not just jumping up and down shouting it's so unfair, I'm sure **** about it here will really show them!

And as for being dumb, I really can't agree. There's a lot of places/things where you do pay more for convenience, this is one of them.

Please show me where in your opinion you aren't just accepting the price? You can't, you have already accepted it because it's 'more convenient'.
It takes all of 5 minutes max to use a VPN, gift yourself the game and enjoy it at the price it should be.

/facepalm
I suppose you would support paying more at a shop 3 feet away from you than a shop 4 feet away because it's more 'convenient' too?

Accepting 1 specific case doesn't actually mean I support all cases, and if there was only ever a $5 mark up on any title, then we can come back to this argument. But being ok with a $5 markup, doesn't at all mean I'm ok with a much higher markup.

And, till the VPN gifting stance is more tested with changes to the EULA, that could well get you banned, so that's a negative to save $5.

Nice leap there, but how about use a more accurate example, Buying a 600ml Coke at the Petrol Station when you get fuel will be, what, $4.50? Buying a 600ml Coke at the supermarket is $3, you're paying more for the convenience of getting a drink when you get fuel, than making a second stop.

I support paying this region tax because it seems to annoy SaNE.

If they want to rename it to the SaNE Tax then I'll pay double.

You should not be ok with any markup on the basis that it's because your in another country, even if it is a single dollar.

It's discrimination. Plain and simple.

We're buying games through a US company, creating accounts on US servers and paying in US dollars. However, because we're living in Australia, we get charged more.

What's wrong with this picture?

Major legal implications that's what. Why do you think when you fly in to America you have to go through a little thing called CUSTOMS

Whether we like it or not the barriers surrounding a country's border is not purely geological

See $5-10 for price jacking in Aus, eh I'm alright with that. The way I figure it is that is essentially GST (even if the seller isn't paying it) Also with the dollar the way that it is, the total price is ~5% less in AUD than what is shown, so not worth getting too hot under the collar about.

My Issue with price jacking is the $30-40 mark ala CoD etc... that is just being down right greedy and discriminatory.

Its okay Pal, I'm sure there is some DRM on it anyway :D

Wait. So there's some sort of Internet customs/border protection authority that I didn't know about?

Sorry but that theory doesn't particularly work well.

The main contention here is that it's DOWNLOADABLE content (meaning there's no retail presence to look after unlike boxed titles such as Skyrim, Dark Souls, Prototype 2, etc.).

If EB were selling codes for the DLC in stores then I can possibly understand the price jack (even though I still think it's ****). Oddly enough though, BF3 Premium is $10 cheaper direct from Origin than it is from EB so it doesn't always work that way.

Given that we're downloading the content instead of importing it from another country, customs can't do anything about it as there's no real borders on the Internet.

Unless there's some kind of Internet customs authority that inspects Internet traffic coming into Australia then your case doesn't hold any merit whatsoever.

So much douchebaggery from both sides here.

I'm going to accept the sad fact that we are once again ripped off, then I'm going to buy the DLC and enjoy the hell out of it. Instead of sitting here mindlessly arguing with other people who are getting ripped off too and posting facepalm memes. But ya'all do what makes you happy.
