What is wrong with people? (specifically young males)

So I have just stumbled upon

It is a website where girl gamers share the abusive messages they have received from other gamers, primarily on x box live.

I know xbox live is a cesspool for little teenage idiots, but some of these just blow my mind. I cannot think of any situation at any point in my life so far where I have felt the need to be that much of a turd.

Then yesterday there was this

Dude that made a 'root rate' page on facebook...

He is my age, 25... and it just hurts my brain to try and see how something like that could present as a good idea ever.

I hate to say it, but kids these days..... hell, anyone born after 1990 I struggle to relate to 90% of the time.

I don't buy into the whole "Gen Y are different" BS - I was a dick between the ages of 15 and 21 or so... arguably still am. Can't say it ever would have occurred to me to be sexist at that kind of level, but I'm sure I offended my fair share of people.

But pretty much what Mekon said. And I would even extend it to people in general just doing some really stupid ****. It's not just young males, unfortunately. Just have to pull people up when they do it and tell them it's not on, something that seems to have fallen by the wayside a bit.

I work in hospitality as a manager, I deal with alot of very young adults on both sides of the bar, I just find it easier to have a chat with someone that is 15 years older then me then 5 years younger, I just have alot more in common I find.

10 years ago when I was 20, I'm pretty sure people were just as dickish, just a smaller avenue to vent it, as things like Facebook didn't exist.

People always were dicks but society made them hide it, now with the advent of social media and the net and anonymity it lets their dickishness run wild, true.

Never see the point in being a dick on the internet. Why put in effort for no gain? Sure there's a possible chance that you might offend the person you're raging at (if you're into that), but since it's the internet, probably not. So you just wasted your time.

Young people have always acted out, it's part of growing up. When added with the 'anonymity' of being online it gives them the confidence to act out more than usual and do things they otherwise wouldn't.

Is it right? No.
Is it an excuse? No.

IMO it goes back to parents who aren't doing enough parenting and it's getting worse.

I don't think its restricted to any particular age group/denomination of any sort.

People are jerks, and it all comes out if they think they can get away with it.

I just struggle to relate with most people.
