I'll probably grab it via GMG or at xmas if it goes on sale with steam :)

I remember it like it was yesterday! PinothyJ posted some news for discussion and it went down a treat :)

Except his thread came up before the GON article which I actually said those situations would result in a thread that had some life in it if you wanna dig up my post in that other thread. :P

Sheesh, all I'm saying is that I would like to see people post topics started with original thoughts on things they care about.

Like PithonyJ did here: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=196006 Replicates a news article substantially, but is the result of his own research and thinking.

My definition of spam isn't exactly innovative either. All the spam emails I get in my inbox were just obvious copy and pasted affairs.

I think you'll also find that if discussion is your goal, you'll get more discussion by starting with original thoughts, so we're on the same side.

Is that alright? - Is that a negative or a positive?

Unless I misunderstand you, I'm not seeing much difference between OP and an apparent "original thought"

On-topic: Thanks for the GMG link, I'll probably end up using that to order Dark Souls, although with my current backlog of games it's probably not the wisest idea on behalf of my bank account to purchase more games.

Pithony linked to a source outside GON which adds something new, as well as put his stuff in quotations.

Matty pretended to be Tim and even wrote "We've contacted NacmcoBandai for an explanation." :P

Of course you can.

Can people seriously not tell the difference between starting a post that goes:

"Hey, GON posted this cool article today, and I'd like to discuss it and this is why in my own words"

and:

*Ctl C+ V x5*

And given that the goal is actual discussion, I just don't get why people are having such a problem with my preferred approach. If you want to discuss something, have a proper discussion, lol.

But none of Pino's post is in his own words? He copied and pasted from he Kotaku article, which was moments later posted on GON as a news article. I guess I'm just ignorant of whatever it is you're trying to say because I personally see no difference whatsoever in the OP's.

I felt the exact same way after reading pages of people questioning my integrity saying I was getting paid to like the site.

The goal is allowing people who don't hit the front page a heads-up that there is a story, as far as I understand it. Matty would understand his own intentions better, presumably.

The added benefit is that any discussion happening here follows normal forum flow - you can use all the forum editing/formatting/quoting features, new comments actually show up in the "view latest posts", etc.

As for the discussion - it seemed to be happening perfectly fine until you derailed the thread. Perhaps a forum mod would like to... moderate? And move all the off-topic comments to their own thread? :P

As opposed to the news snippets posted here in GON which regurgitate news from other sites, for the benefit of local readers who don't visit those other sites?

All Matty has done is take the advice of others, that they have spouted again and again to bypass a system many users think is ****. The fact that some people take offence to that is phenomenal and has derailed this thread, something they had specifically bitched about in the past and gave as a reason the news section is now "improved". Good work, so this is going to be yet another thread about the pro's and con's, with the same people on either side, the same arguments.

Well, I won't post again here so the discussion can get back on track.

I didn't have any problem with the way Pithony did it because it was obviously something he cared about.

In this case, these threads came from complaints themselves. The origin was people complaining in the 'Amazing New Site' thread. Matty said "I've got this" and immediately posted 5 copy pasted threads. And there's no discussion happening in the 4 other threads.

That just spoke to me about intentions other than simply fostering discussion, and is why I rose my concerns in this thread. Again, if this had been a thread where the original poster actually felt strongly about the topic and continued to provide comments in response to people (a 'real' discussion as people are fond of calling them), I wouldn't have an issue.

I just don't want to see this forum go the way of multiple topics created just to spite a system. :)
