Dont want to sound like a douche - but is it set to filter and is it picking the right region?

My list in the filter line is this - and seems to work:

Code: Select all
*:27030=49.143.234.14,valve.tge2-3.fr4.syd.llnw.net,steam.cdn.on.net,steam1.syd7.internode.on.net,steam1.adl6.internode.on.net,steam-wa.3fl.net.au,steam-nsw.3fl.net.au,ga17.gamearena.com.au,steam01.qld.ix.asn.au,steam.waia.asn.au,steam01.vic.ix.asn.au,steam.mel.ipgn.com.au;content?.steampowered.com=49.143.234.14,valve.tge2-3.fr4.syd.llnw.net,steam.cdn.on.net

Yep it did have filter on and it auto detected internode as my isp, my lines appear the same as yours.

I did notice that the program has a "steam download" option when you right click it and it launches you into steam, do you have to load steam this way for it to filter correctly maybe?

My understanding was that selecting Internode simply set a PREFERRED provider - and if the content wasn't hosted by the 'node Steam server - (which is beyond 'node's control) the download would come from whichever server did have it...

Aaaaahhhh - Here it is

"As is the case with our regular dedicated Steam content servers, we are unable to ensure that content you receive is unmetered, this is entirely dependant on the requested content and if it is available for delivery via the CDN. Failing this, the content may be acquired from an alternative source, counting towards your monthly quota."

http://www.internode.on.net/residential ... ntent_faq/

The various third-party filters - if set up properly - SHOULD stop downloads from non-'node sources
but - just to answer a question that is coming... last one in the FAQ

"If I use one of the community-made programs but later find out that the file has downloaded from an overseas or metered server, will Internode reimburse me the quota I have used?

No."

I understand how the steam servers work ive said that already.

When i'm saying its provided by gon servers I mean, ive set my prefered servers to Internode, i've run the steam limiter program and when downloading a game if you click the "play" button it brings up a second window, it shows a progress bar for the download and under that it gives you a box telling you which server is providing the content, in this case it displayed a GON server.

So while it may in the background be pulling from more then just the gon server, it should still be coming majority, from the gon servers.

Also the game files in total were around 2.4gig, and when I looked at my meterage after the download, i had lost the exact amount of the entire download. This means that despite me setting my prefered server to GON, using the steam limiter, AND seeing the GON server giving me the content, the ENITRE download was counted as unmetred.

I just cannot believe that after 3 steps to avoid any other servers, that it somehow still downloaded the entire file from something other then an "unmetred server". So either my plan with node ISN'T working as intended, or it just doesn't include unmetred content, which I didn't think was possible.

Is it possible for tech to track where my download was coming from?

Just to clarify, from what I have found, it doesn't always show the server you are downloading from but rather random images (You are best tracing IP's (connections) to figure out if it is the correct server).

Not at all, you may have set steam limiter up incorrectly or it generally may not be working on your set up. Again, it is a third party program made by some programmer and is no guarantee that it works with your set up, nor do Node guarantee something they didn't make or control.

You need to move away from this line of thought, Setting a preferred server really means jack. All you are asking Steam to do is look at that server, it doesn't mean that server has the content nor does it mean it will grab files from that server.

Have you verified what IP's you are downloading from? Have you then cross matched those ip's with the IP's offered on the unmetered list?

Maybe, contact Node.

One suggestion - use TCPView or the like to keep an eye on the connections steam is setting up (or in the case of CDn servers the connections may be going through your AV).

Try a different steam filterer. I've had mixed success with them.
I can't remember which ones didn't work though, as I deleted them.

Can't, Steamwatch and Freys do not work with the new http setup for the CDN, so if you did that you would be excluding the largest source for unmetered content.

The only program that now works with the CDN is steamlimiter (afaik). I thought Steam manager was an Achievement program? >_>
