Pandora Quietly Re-Opens For Australians

Like a thief in the night, online radio service Pandora quietly re-opened its doors to Australians some time in the last week, bringing with it local-ish pricing.

Gadget Guy‘s Leigh Stark pointed out last week that the service had snuck back into Australia’s now heavily populated online music market.

Pandora’s point of difference is music curation by the numbers. It analyses what you give your up votes and down votes to before recommending other tracks based on that information.

Pricing at the moment looks to mirror US pricing: $3.99 for a one-month subscription and $36 for a one-year subscription.

Pandora will have to stand head and shoulders above an already noisy field of competitors that includes Spotify, Rdio, MOG and JB Hi-Fi NOW.

Quite pleased about this, as there's always been a few small names on Pandora that I've had a lot of trouble finding anywhere else.

Been loving it so far. Never got to try it before it closed to non-US users 5(?) years ago but now I see what the fuss was about. The free version seems pretty well featured, but I wouldn't have any qualms about the palty $36 yearly asking price. Only question is, is it worth it for a desktop app + higher bitrate?

Anyone paying for it? Or Spotify premium?

I've never tried the paid service, but the free part is pretty good - even with the limited skipping.

Awesome! My login still works which surprised me. Now I just need to figure out if I want to move away from Grooveshark.

I've been using Pandora for a couple of years via a VPN service to the US. Glad I can finally the $10 monthly cost of the VPN that's just used for Pandora. :D. Now they just need to allow us to download the mobile app and we'll be completely set.
