The website isn't loading but yeah, sad about the jobs, not so much about the store itself.

The local GAME store to us was staffed by arrogant arseholes anyway, good riddence to that particular store.

For the rest, my condolences.

Edit: And their 60% of sale? Good luck finding anything:
a) in stock
b) worth it's ticketed price
c) not in their 'pre-sale' stock.

Basically I found Michael Jackson's The Experience for $2 and that was about it.

After a protracted struggle to stay afloat, GAME Australia has finally succumbed to its financial troubles. The company's administrator — PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) — has confirmed today that all GAME stores in Australia will close down in the coming weeks.

PwC said that 16 stores will shut immediately, with the remaining 15 to be shuttered in the coming weeks.

"In the interests of creditors, the 31 remaining GAME stores are to be closed over the coming weeks, and a final closing-down sale has commenced with discounts of up to 60 per cent available in-store and online," administrator Kate Warwick said in a statement.

"This is a difficult time for employees, and closing the stores was not a decision we made easily. Despite exploring available opportunities for continued trading, the ongoing trading performance and absence of viable offers for the purchase of the business has resulted in these closures."

GAME Australia went into administration in May this year, following similar financial troubles with its UK parent company. PwC was exploring avenues to keep the business afloat, including finding a buyer for the stores, but rumours that it was unsuccessful began circulating earlier this month.

PwC has been in touch with the Federal Government department that deals with general employee entitlements and redundancy schemes (GEERS) and will assist the employees with their applications.

According to PwC, another meeting of creditors is scheduled to take place today in Sydney to decide the future of GAME Australia.

I personally think we may see a lot more of this in the year and yes it is a shame about the jobs that are going to be lost .

It never ceases to amaze me how these businesses know that they are going under... They go into liquidation, appoint administrators, but in their stores continue to act like its "business as usual" not letting anyone of the general public know, unless specifically asked and then BAM the next day doors are closed with a sign stuck out the front.

In essence it's a "too bad so sad" attitude by the company for those unwitting people who don't know / pay attention to GAMEs probelms (I'm generally referring to older people who have no idea about games etc and generally only buying for kids / family)

I had to laugh when I walked past the local GAME when I was working to see the doors closed and staff inside cleaning up - and only a sign out the front that read "GAME is now closed. If you have any issues please visit game.com.au"

I wonder how many people got screwed over with pre orders / gift cards and store credit etc.

Yesterday I went in to see if I could pick up a PS3 blu-ray remote, which they had run out of. I sat in a line of about 3-4 people, 2 of them made pre-orders for up coming games. I couldn't believe it, but didn't mention anything because TBH they don't like me there anyway (I told them about the initial collapse of GAME prior to their own company, real smart bunch there).

Not everyone has the knowledge to make the full decision, however the way they were trading is such a nonchalant way would make it difficult for anyone to assume they were having troubles.

My local game is having the 60% sale.
yet once you take 60% off the ticket price then you are at about normal prices anyway.

They have a sign out the front that says "The we're not closing down 60% sale".
To POV for a sig, but HEY it is GREEN!

Damn. I don't even remember the last time I pre-ordered something, unless pre-purchasing it on Steam counts. You may get a slow download speed from an online service on launch day, but at least you can know the place will still be in business.

Game has never really had very decent deals. The only reason i ever wen in there was because the one near my house has a lot of retro stuff in it. I was kind of sad to see that one close till i found out it was just changing it's name to something else :P
