Well it's official, on May 21st we'll see what Microsoft intends to send up against the PS4. What do you think we'll see at the event? Personally i'm hoping for the rumours about no used games, always online, less power etc to be true, it'll make my choice to go PS4 much easier and we need to see this high profile failure to show devs/pubs once and for all that this stuff isn't acceptable seeing as many aren't getting the hint from titles like Diablo 3/SimCity.

- Kinect with every console

- System has to be connected online to Live once every 24 hours (no idea what happens if it doesn't connect...)

- Blu-ray drive for movies and games

- All games must be installed to 500GB HDD

- 8GB of DDR3 memory with 5GB available for games

- No backwards compatibility

- No used games (have to pay a license fee to activate a game on another Live account, fee is full game price)

- Some sort of trade-in and re-sell system for games, details later

- Xbox Live accounts will carry across, but no digital purchases will

Even if it does all that, I'll get whatever platform has the games I want on it.

The only one that might (And it is a might) give me pause is always online, the power thing doesn't matter so much with a closed system, and I don't sell or buy used games anyway (I'm so used to not being able to on PC that it doesn't factor in to my choice).

Will be interesting to see what titles it'll launch with though, but I'm not staying up till 3am to watch lol

Always online doesn't bother me. Not selling used games doesn't bother me. The fact they still sell console games for retarded high prices with little to no choice but to import them bothers me, hence why I'm not bothering with this round of consoles.

I don't trade my old games but i've learnt to live with buying used games when you can't buy new copies anymore so that's an issue there.

They're all using gimmicks, Nintendo have just gone in a different direction compared to Sony and Microsoft.

The only real difference is the extent that they're pushing the "experience", Sony is still marketing the Playstation as primarily a gaming console while Microsoft are really trying to push the 360/720 as an all in one gaming/tv/movie/music "experience" for the whole house.

I've only got a 360 because I wanted to play Halo after they made it console only (I'd really like to know what dimwit thought that was a money making venture, they own the PC but they don't push it for gaming) and with Halo being pretty much worn out, not interested a single bit in either console.
I am happy that they've moved to a real processor though so that games can actually be made for PC and then scaled all the way down for console, they are no doubt still going to throw **** in our faces on PC with wacky controls and UI though.

That's the theory but I don't see the big deal about competition when the alternate products are 90% the exact same thing as is the case between the 360/PS3. The previous generation was a golden age for console competition. PS2 had the biggest library of games, Gamecube was full of must have Nintendo exclusives and Xbox had the best graphics by a large margin. There was a reason to have all the consoles unlike these days.

The difference is that Nintendo force you to use their gimmick whereas Sony and MS (assuming some of the Kinect 2 rumours aren't true) have theirs on the side as optional additions.

Surprised Foxtel didn't try to secure the rights to a live broadcast of the event on one of their channels given that they have a major stake in the Xbox experience.

I'm not sure I'll bother with this console generation. I primarily got my Xbox 360 to continue the Halo series, I've had a lot of fun with mates playing through Halo 3, Reach etc, but Halo 4 was complete and utter tripe to me and I don't think I've turned on my 360 in months. Just about every other console game I'm interested in also comes out on PC, with the possible exception of Gears of War, so I'm cautiously pessimistic at this stage.

I also can't wait to see what the new equivalent of the RROD is.
