Also, gentlemen.. I bit the bullet. Thank you for all who contributed to my thread, I appreciate it I ended up going back into Landers and this time found a much more helpful salesman, who was happy to help me out and answer questions.

I spent more than I would have buying online for the same model, but I think I can see why.. one of the guitars he opened to check they hadn't removed some white gunk from the stock, so he put that one out back, the second from the box he said didn't sound as good as another one (even I noticed), and the third (other one) sounded brilliant, amazing tone to my ears and good projection. He also chucked in a tuner and a handful of picks of various width (which I'm sure they factor into the cost of the guitar anyway and then offer them as bonus extras to make the sale sound good).

It is a steel string laminate, but I'm very happy and glad I did some research before investing in a $100 guitar. So gentlemen, I present, my new guitar.

Actually one of the most exciting purchases I've made in a long time. First played it when I was in grade 2 I think, and it pretty instantly became my favourite NES game. Save slots!
So yeah, I paid $55 for this, but it was worth it So damn happy to have found one complete and in good condition.
