IT learnding and developmentz.

Unread postby Artful-dodgeR » 26 Mar 12, 7:09 pm

Hey hey.

So, I've been given a budget of between $1k-4k at work to do some further education / short courses.

My current work is a mixture of business intelligence/reporting (SQL/sas/excel), IT support (frontline/local program/base network) and program development/automation (vbs/JavaScript/vba). My main loves are developing and automation, nothing more satisfying than getting your computer to work for you rather than the other way around.

So based on the above, can anyone suggest some courses or further learning? I could probably push the budget higher because they like me and stuff :-P Also looking for it to be useful outside of this place, so industry recognized would be a plus.

Any further info can be given if needed :-P

Did a GWT training course with them a few months back, they know their stuff imo.

Need to contact them for prices, they might fall in the 1-4k range :P

tafe cert IV in IT networking which includes your Cisco CCNA1 & 2 (depending on which state, i guess.) you build networks, and do programming. if you go into diploma, you complete ccna 3&4 and get the cisco discount to sit the big exam.

Whatever you do don't be tempted by a corporate certification. The vast majority of these have zero real value, unless you actually work for the company offering said certification or a partner.

Have you had a look if TAFE or similar offers anything suitable? Usually you can do something like a diploma level certification while you're working and your employer might go along with that...
