I tried to resist but I am a sucker for a good collector's edition.

It's a Dungchen, the tibetan horn... Although, I have a cut down one so it's quieter (for the sake of the neighbours) and higher in pitch... Will graduate to the big one eventually...

I got the first note out of it last night that wasn't flatulent... Very proud am I...

Someone needs to explain to me the lure of mechanical keyboards. My friend swears by his and we had a 'discussion' the other day about them. I have an elcheapo $10 keyboard and I honest to god can not for the life in me think of why I would need anything else.

Two words, tactile feedback.

el cheapo feels like lucid plastic made for preschooler toys, newer mechanical keyboards feel like lazer cut functional artwork.

There is a whooooole thread on it over at on the Techforums.

Typing distance is reduced so technically you press the letter faster and with a more audible and textured 'click'. While I think they're great, I also think me $10 logitech does the job enough for me because I'm not that serious into my game playing.

I use the analogy of photo in this case. You may look at the photo and think it's a bit of alright, whereas a fully fledged critic will look at the subtle nuances of the chiaroscuro shading and the way the light plays on the foreground figures in an almost atmospheric approach to embiggen the more cromulent character.

Even if you were serious about playing games I don't see how getting one would improve performance unlike getting a better more accurate mouse. Granted i'm yet to try a mechanical keyboard, and maybe my mind would change if I got one, but I just don't see how you could improve the performance of pressing buttons*. :?
