Game Bargain, Deals, Vouchers and Specials Discussion!

Unread postby Cas Bitton » 20 Feb 12, 11:28 am

Are you looking for the best bargains, deals, vouchers and game specials? This topic is likely to be your new home! :D

DarkMellie has done a great job in the with the old Steam specific sale topic and after a brief chat we have agreed to make this a little broader, more ambitious and kick things off so everyone can reap the benefits of better game prices in Australia :).

Please feel free to discuss, share and rant about all things game discount and store related. Found an awesome deal at a local store? Post it here! Steam having a sale? Let us know!

If we can get a regular sea of content or spot anything that is newsworthy you can be sure to see it on the front page of games.on.net! :D

Region Locking
It is also worth knowing a little about region locking before making a game purchase, a number of titles do have region restrictions or limitations. What does that mean? To put simply, the content you purchase will not work in Australia unless the content is #1 region free or #2 meets the region compatibility requirements of your hardware.

Our love for DLC is also impacted by region locking. Please remember that most DLC is also region restricted.

DLC Restriction Example:
You purchase a new PlayStation 3 game from Amazon America, it's region free and works fine. DLC for this game is released on the Australian SEN. There is a significant chance that the local DLC on the Australian store will not be compatible with the game.

More information about region locking can be found here:

Now lets get right into the heart of the topic! :D

I've had good experiences with Dungeon Crawl. They're a direct importer based in Melbourne.

Cheers! :) I've added them to the list.

If there are any stores you would like added to the list who have a trustworthy reputation, are accountable for the products they sell and genuinely have great prices, I'll be more then happy to throw them on our list :icon14: :).

I've bought several games off c j s - cdkeys.com without any issues (I've only bought Steam and Origin keys off them). Used moneybookers to pay for it as they don't use paypal. (eg Star Wars: The Old Republic, Kingdoms of Amalur $30)

Edit: So they use paypal but its not instant, they have to verify your payment manually.

I bought a bf3 le key off them and it was a nightmare. It was in stock when I ordered, a day or so later they were in negative stock (into the hundreds). Poor communication with me, they kept saying they'd be restocked "within 24 hours" but never were. I asked to be changed to the russian edition so I could get it sooner, this was ignored. After a few days they were back in stock then out again and I still didn't have my key. Eventually I got a russian edition key (despite no confirmation this was going to happen, since I asked for a RU key only if it would get to me in the next day or so) and I don't think I ever got the 1 pound or whatever it was difference back.

http://www.cdwow.com.au/ is another shop you can add, they're pretty much average, long shipping time, not bad prices, limited selection.

That sucks you got a bad experience :( . I've gotten all my keys within 5-10min every time and with the prices they have, I'll definitely be buying from there again.

Yeah CDWOW is a good one.

Also I had no troubles getting my key for BF3 off of c j s - cdkeys, had it within minutes in fact.

Probably not best to recommend them if people on GON have had legitimate issues though.

The whole "key buying" thing has been addressed in the past. I believe Cas basically ruled them out, so I wouldn't bother suggesting them.

I'm not looking to backflip at all on what I have said previously about CD key sites, but if you guys want to talk about them and you understand the risks involved with handing money to people online, go nuts :).

If something bad comes from this, you are entirely responsible. It's more about being accountable for your own poor choices and not taking recommendations of stores to buy from as gospel.

I just don't want to see anyone get absolutely screwed in any way. Money or time, you deserve the products you pay for asap :).

I'm happy to amend CD Key prices to this list in the same way I'd happily recommend our members use StaticIce to compare hardware prices.

The old saying "If it seems too good to be true, it probably is" holds a lot of weight for this one :icon14: :)

These days I only tend to use g2play.net unless Steam have a decent sale that brings the prices down to a reasonable level.

I personally have never had an issue with g2play and they will continue to get my $$$.
