Mellie's Random Game Discussion Thread

^yeah max payne 2 is boss, modern games are bland.

it's an unfortunate state of affairs indeed, I've definitely been leaning towards looking at making my own games. Classic case of "nothing out there did what I wanted it to so I had to make it myself". Just half a year of honours work to get out the way first...

i get what you mean exe3, while i felt rockstar had a good go at MP3, i still think it doesn't surpass MP2. I'm not saying I wanted a MP2 clone or anything like that but I felt this game lacked on the 'emotional' side of things. I didn't feel for max like I did in the first two, with his wife and mona. And the missions... i wish they were more varied.

A couple of spoilers are hidden

Hidden: show
rescue the girl, rescue the girl, rescue the girl... I don't think I did anything else until the last level...

I didn't mind that they did away with the graphic novel, but the cut scenes were too intrusive. Much of the time while watching I was thinking 'I wanted to do that..'

Hidden: show
Also the train mission, where your confronted with goons on another train. I was throughly over shooting dudes by that point and thought 'ill just hide till we get to the airport... sure enough you had to kill all the goons to trigger the cutscene which gets you to the airport...grrr

MP3 was a great game, but too many things kept ruining the immersion. It was enjoyable, and I'll play the arcade modes, but I wont play it again like I did MP2. :)
Hit me up on Steam!

Not pleased that there's no graphic novel or nightmares in MP3. Those are some of the biggest things that made Max Payne such unique and enjoyable adventures for me. Those helped make Max Payne 1/2 special and unlike any other game or experience.
*Insert negative stuff here.*

I spent the game wishing Max would STFU and stop going in and out of cut scenes >.<

^ this looks as though it may have some potential!

Edited to add:

I've had an itch lately to play a game that requires a bit more thought than BF3.. so I've had a bit of a look and came across these:

Galactic Civilization 2
Sins of a Solar Empire
Civilization V

Now I haven't played any of these, just looking for a game that I can play for a few hours and feel as though I've accomplished something (in game). Suggestions between those?

I might get Galactic Civ 2 anyway because it would run on my cheap laptop..but yeah.

Right back into BF3 on Xbox again, the CQ DLC is fairly okay but once I've finished the achievements I'll be moving back to Conquest.

The last patch added rentable servers which is a first for console shooters. So now instead of bog standard server rotations, there's 500% ticket Metro 24/7 servers and all sorts of ungodly combinations. Definitely makes it one of the most enjoyable console shooters I've ever seen (outside of the outstanding, but co-op Halo Forge environment).

After finishing the latest Ghost Recon my mate has had a hunger for the TC series so I've reinstalled Vegas 1 and 2 and GRAW 1 and 2 and am really enjoying them on the Hard difficulty.

Add to that some Xbox Minecraft (which is surprisingly almost more fun than the PC version) and my Witcher 2 Dark playthrough and surprisingly I'm almost playing as many games as I did before Lucas came along!

Sins of a Solar Empire is absolutely one of my favourite 4X games. Only problem is it is fairly in depth but there is a lot of freedom in it. I've been in the Rebellion Beta for a while but the full games just been released which is awesome, it doesn't have the biggest player base though. Civ 5 is also amazing, and will be even more awesome when the Xpac comes out to add it to the Steam workshop. I haven't played Galactic Civ 2 so I can't comment on that.

Haha yeah nor would Sins, but Galactic Civ just might ordered it through eBay since it's much cheaper than Steam - I think I might go for Sins over Civ5 though just because I like the idea of space rather than just earth.. I guess it's the nerd in me?

And I might look at installing an older version of Civ on my laptop, there seems to be some debate as to which is the best with Civ2 coming up quite often and I'm fairly certain that would run on the laptop, as will as Galactic Civ 2.

Sins would run on an older laptop pretty easy, it wasn't that intensive iirc.
But I would recommend Sins over the rest any day of the week, the game is just superb, I think I sunk more hours into Sins then I ever did into any Civ game.

Just don't build a billion mines in every gravity well and try not to play with too many planets. It's the sheer size that usually kills older computers.
