Mellie's Random Game Discussion Thread

Started playing A Valley Without Wind (co-op). Pretty interesting, reminds me of Terraria a bit. Kinda daunting how gigantic the continents are, and then to know there are multiple ones in each world. So far i don't think there's enough variety (items, enemies, environments etc) to sustain me playing through that much of the world though. I'm guessing i'll get half way through the first continent before i get bored and move on. Not bad for the price though, I'm sure I'll get enough hours play from it.

Just got up to the emo section of Brutal Legend.

Hidden: show
I like what they're doing with the story, it's starting to get more interesting and Ophelia, any other game would have sided with her rather than leave her behind like what happened. Massive props for that. Kinda glad Lars is dead, he was kind of...two dimensional, almost thought he was actually a bad guy in disguise his character was so bad.

Gameplay wise it's still fun but the RTS mechanics are clearly on the weak side. It just doesn't really work with such limited control of your units, it's really messy such as choosing one specific unit to do a task). If they did a sequel i'd rather them make it lane based like League of Legends where the RTS segments come a bit more from customizing what troops you send through rather than any form of micromanagement and unit movement. Also strategy from how you directly interact with troops (double teams and who you decide to aid in a given fight). Or perhaps if they just gave you the Halo Wars controls when you go into flying mode, yeah thinking about that I think that would work best while keeping the original RTS vision. So sad they're not making that sequel. :(

I'd also change the Guitar spells so that they work like the Ocarina from Zelda Ocarina of Time in that you pull up the Guitar and then do the sequence rather than selecting Guitar, choosing your song and then follow the Guitar Hero like prompt.

Ugh, the urge to resub to Eve keeps getting stronger. I'd be much more inclined to stick to it if I had in-game friends.

I don't know.

Has hell frozen over? Crysis 2 on Steam :P. As I read elsewhere - possibly because there wont be anymore DLC for it?

Depends on whether you like Call of Duty. Not the worst game ever made but very uninspired. If you liked Crysis you probably won't like Crysis 2.

Some of the shine has come off, having hit some of the quirkier glitches... but I'm still impressed by its novel additions to the standard console RPG.

The "pawn" system amuses me in a very meta way, it's almost a parody of distributed AI (and the in-game explanation of their origins *has* to be tongue in cheek). Works well when it works and annoys the hell out of you when it doesn't. the game certainly has some epic combat sequences... I've heard it described as a Frankenstein monster incorporating elements of Dark Souls, Skyrim and Monster Hunter, and couldn't agree more.

Definitely worth a look, IMO.

Jesus, exe...

I played both and because I don't hold developers ransom to my expectations, I enjoyed both games for what the were.. fun shooters with pretty graphics.

Jesus, DarkMellie...

Saying it wasn't the worst game in the world was me saying it was ok and there's some fun to be had unlike how many others say it is utter sin. It was a very uninspired CoD clone not even taking into account it being a sequel to Crysis, but even so there was some fun and some 'cool' moments to it.

Simply put I played Crysis 2 for what it was and I found it lacking and not that fun much of the time.

DarkMellie, you generally need to read Exe3's post with a +60% positiveness potion. :)

Seriously, I'm going to get this when it's on sale and will play it if/when I've had enough of Skyrim.
