If people don't like to be disturbed in moments of great RP importance - then don't stand around in common areas ...

No DM I know of forces anyone to play a character in a specific way. You may well bring up the Dwarves group to make a point that I railroaded them into becoming Undead, but in that instance, it was a new group, they only became Undead if they died, and ultimately, it was reversed. But it was still within the dwarves' power to *not* fall victim of the curse, and they still RPed their character as they would have before, albeit with less flesh on their bones.

However most of my old characters have empty quest journals. I know one character has two Wings amulets (yes I've told a DM and he has had to refer it to someone more senior still waiting on an answer).

Hart and Halga will continue to beaver towards level 30 to join the Rangers of Edon. (Hart is now level twenty-two, Seven levels since we last spoke)

The McTuffs ONLY play every 2nd Friday. I need to play a lot more than that!

And then there is a nasty expense too. Last one I can recall is a cloak needs 300,000 to upgrade to superlative and my crafer has 9,000gp. That's a lot rings need craftin' and sellin'.

I have been away for nine months doing other things since the disaster that was christmas. Crafting seems to be fixed now. And Journals update properly.

So I've started some new characters and I'm basically learning the module all over again. I'm spending more time grappling with the economy and how the hell I can make a character that can tackle the Red and shadow dragons so I can craft better equipment to tackle the dragons (rinse, repeat).

This focus on trying to get established overshadows any current need to be involved with role playing with long time established players.

There are quite a few newish players out there in the same position that also have no connection to the *inn crowd*. I stood in at one of the lie on the grass sessions in front of the Temple of Serena and came away thirty minutes later none the wiser on what is happening in Edon.

However, every second friday a group of around 5 players with dwarf characters head out into the wilderness and RP as best they can while struggling up from level 1. These characters only play at this time. They are currently around level 8. And quite proud of taking down the Gnolls too! I beleive all of them would welcome any DM intervention of almost any kind.

As far as a large server wide plot is concerned. We simply dont know what's happened in the past, and arent going to sift through pages and pages of forum text to find out. We look at our players personalities and react as seems appropriate to what is thrown our way. We are the Clan McTuff.

Sitting in helios and waxing lyrical about my left toe is not for me. RPing on the go in monster infested lands is the food for my fun: I was involved with the Galdorian RP sessions some 11 months ago and was dissapointed that only three players could be bothered starting new character with severe restrictions. The underdark group at the time was somewhat larger and just as interesting. They weresome of the best fun I've had ever in NWN.

Oh and the new maps I've come across are stunning. Heard quite a few gasp of delight from players in my party too!

On the subject of the scourge. I am keen to find out more but am, as of yet not prepared to stick my neck out on Misty Isle.

so:

1) The MCTuffs plan an extend RP session from level 1 to 40 with whatever they can find to get in trouble with. With or without a DM. You wont find them sleeping in Helios for very long. Some hang-overs require ten minutes to fix.

2)Comes down to the traits of the character. See Beatrice McTuff is a Wizard and used her brain to work out things. Sadly for her the other McTuffs arent and tend to just react to everything, especially singed beards. If a DM were to be present as an NPC it would be quite obvious that the Mctuff would constantly banter at it with inane questions.

3)Aye Helios should be Safe. The Salty Dog is another matter of course. Dwarf Bowling anyone?

4) Beatrice can't stand just hanging around in Helios and talking about her big toe. If She's not casting, buffing, swinging, chopping, running, or dieing I may as well watch Telly.

And It's pretty much the same for all my characters. I prefer to be in a party, but if there is no-one in range, I'll just head out somewhere and explore. Lot's of new places to look at to. Dread castle is amazing.. and the stairs south of Kelahar's Bridge!

Just a bit of a challenge, BUT it takes my mind away from any RP. I just can't focus very well on RP when I'm trying to be an accountant!!!

It's possible I am too generous. If people have the parts I'll craft them for free. I figure they are struggling just like me. Good on them if they have got the parts needed. If a party member needs something and I have a spare, I'll just hand it over. Thinking about charging them for it just makes me feel Ill.

Here is a view from an old player:
One of the main reasons my play pattered off into almost nothing was actualy due to player interaction less than Lack off/too much DM interaction. I found that playing as a villan in Edon could only get so far as most players didnt want anything bad to happen to their caracter as it wasnt something that they wanted to happen. Thats why I really got into the whole Drow hunt epic storyline. Players looked at what other characters were doing and would feed off that regardless of what they wanted. As time wore on, I found that getting any interaction with "Good" players with my 'Bad" characters became harder and harder until eventualy I just gave up. I look back and smile at the times I spent with Tono and Avantha and to be honest, I think that whole villan thing is what Edon is missing.
With the Surface Vs Drow/undead, it gave a central focus of good/bad and the players who dabbled in the grey areas a huge playground. From what I have read in the RP forums over the last 6 or so months, that same kind of focus/central point lacks in the current conflict between edon and teh scourge. Last really good conflict/interaction I saw was teh storyline involving the DM made NPC characters (Which I thought was a stroke of genius!)
