Richard Burns Rally - You will want to read this :D

Unread postby Cas Bitton » 26 Apr 12, 3:59 pm

I'm testing the waters here with this idea so hear me out. We have a pretty strong and kick arse PC racing community here these days! It's awesome :D

So I'll get on with it. Richard Burns Rally is a pain to find locally. Do you have any leads or suggestions on were I can buy it? Years ago I had it on PS2, but that's rather useless to me now lol.

Alternatively, I'm prepared to make a bulk order online and give a few copies away out of my own pocket. If I go down this path, what's something fun we can do have a laugh and make people take notice of our members who really love racing games?

:D

Edit:

Conditions of mission if you choose to accept it:

  • You must actually play the game if you receive a copy, use it as a launch pad for your new found racing enthusiast addiction :)
  • You must have demonstrated involvement in the past on the forum and shown an interest in racing games
  • Keen to assist others when their and your copy of RBR arrive
  • Work with those of us who now have RBR to create a games.on.net car skin (or we could spend some time building stuff for project cars etc instead? - TBA)

What if I just take the game and run?

I'll never forgive you, no really :o

Alright, cut the ****... How do I get my game?

It's pretty easy, I'll pick a few people who give it their best effort over the next few weeks (and I've got to wait for the game to arrive) :icon14:

Pick one (or more) of the following, all are rewarding:

  • Photoshop your self (or your car) into a rally scene
  • Head out to the shed or clear some room in the lounge, build or expand on your existing racing cockpit/setup - Who knows what you will add, cup holders are pretty useful!
  • Cook something on a weekend that would be awesome to eat on a sunday raceday, I was seriously thinking about this entire giveaway....and was leaning towards seeing who could make the best cupcakes out of meat

How many games are on offer?

I'm unsure tbh, depends how the order goes/cost etc. Either way those who do get one and those who miss out have still had a bit of fun :).

I'll let people know via PM once I've actually got a few copies of RBR on hand. Will be a bit easier to work out postage etc later. I wont be surprised if it takes a month for them to arrive

It's not guaranteed you will receive anything from me, at all....So don't act like I owe you a favor or you are entitled if you do miss out. Bad luck.

Richard Burns Rally is sooooooo awesome.. Ill admit, it is the only game i have actually grab by "not so good" means in the past. Though I don't have it now, and would prefer to own a legit copy of it, its just so damn hard to find.

I own the XBOX version of it, but that is useless to me really as I have no old xbox or wheel for an xbox.

I also learnt how to run online comps with it, using the RBR2011 mod (or something like that)..where we all race against each other, but solo on our own PCs, and a website app tracks all the stage times etc and organises the contest. Is like a real rally event.

This plan needs to happen somehow! I might do a bit of googling to find where legit copies can be purchased.

Haha, sorry I got excited at a downloadable version of it then and jumped head first into it!

But I would be happy to take part in any plans that you have bubbling away there ;)

Ok i re-read the first post and understand better now.. I got too ahead of myself thinking of this game, then 'Mellies info sent me over the edge! lol

I will have a think about what's possible with it too, and see what I can come up with. I know with the mod I mentioned you can run basically real to life rally events, with everyone competing, and it's all managed by the website that is behind the mod. But that takes some organising.

Will see what else I can think of, and hopefully the other guys have some ideas for events too.

Something like the HotLap Challenge that is going on in the LFS Gonlympics is fun and easy to organise. Set a rally stage, and a period of time, for people to see what is the best time they can submit.

Incredibly hard to be competitive in RBR... most people will be stoked just to make it to the finish line.

Who knows, my ideas normally stop at "post a picture with a shoe on your head".

Tim normally shoots me down :(, I'm still having a think (pretty busy atm) but I'm sure there is something social we can do that's enjoyable :)

Btw forget about any ideas that relate to already owning RBR lol :P
