iRacing with LCD-TV

Unread postby aU_Viper » 23 Jun 11, 1:12 pm

Hi all,

Just asking here for my brothers setup for iRacing. He has quite a good gaming rig with Core i7 Quad CPU - 8 Gig Ram - GPU I think maybe a single ATI 5870 but would have to check that.

So question is the connection is via a 5 mtr DVI-HDMI cable from the PC to a Samsung LA32R71B TV and states the connection is better with the RGB cable. He has set the TV to game mode I believe. Could the length of the cable be an issue perhaps. Is this generally the preferred method to connect your PC to LCD-TV?

Reason for the 5 mtr cable is he has the TV setup away from the computer and in front of racing sim setup ie seat, wheel, pedals etc.

Be interested to hear of other similar setups and how to optimise for the best setup please.

Cheers

I never tried with an RGB so maybe it's better, (define better).

But it sounds like a similar setup to what I had.

PC sitting next to my wheel. DVI to HDMI converter -> 10m el cheapo HDMI cable -> 56in plasma.

worked a treat...had no issues.

Yeah the picture looks a bit fuzzy on the edges around writing and side of pics etc. When we have a look at the settings in the ATI control panel it states the recomended setting is 1280x 768 or similar. There is a setting above that but I believe by changing that the refresh rate drops to 25-30hz.

About to plug the RGB cable back in to see what resolution options are available.

fair enough so it might just be about making sure that IRacing is running to the monitors default native resolution which google tells me is 1366 x 768

As I suspected the analogue cable will run at the TV's recommended resolution 1360x768 ... put in the DVI-HDMI cable and the max you can set the graphics to is lower than that at say 1280x768

Auto tuning within iRacing will set it to the resloution on the PC .... Any more ideas greatly appreciated.

The TV only has the one HDMI slot in the back as well

Did some googling and seems there is heaps of inputs available, not just a HDMI input. Res seems rather low for the price of the unit.
