After a new shifter? Thrustmaster TH8RS

Unread postby Cas Bitton » 16 Oct 12, 8:21 am

Looks like a solid bargain, these normally go for $199-300 :)

Price went way way back up! http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B005LAL1PW/ozba-21

Price seems to be fluctuating a little, it was £57 ($90 aud delivered) last night when I had a look. Not a huge change.

Awesome value! If I could justify spending more money on gaming atm I'd be picking up one, but sadly I can't.. not sure where I would mount it on my stand anyway.

For the same reasons I had a long think about it, then decided to grab one. Amount of time I've spent sorting my racing stuff out of the years this was pretty much the last component I needed to have a rock solid setup. Thankfully with PC gaming this should literally last me the next 10 years :D

Yeah its definitely a quality piece of equipment that will get year's of use! Im planning to jump back into simracing in about 12mths time and set myself up with some good gear/cockpit etc, something like this will be on the list of things on the shopping list.

Be sure to let us know how it feels once you have it :)

No worries, I'll post my thoughts on it here or in a new topic. Original price is pretty absurd but that's understandable as it is a very high end enthusiast product, doesn't surprise me at all that amazon are selling these well below cost price. Was pretty awesome to see in the video review that it uses a standard fitting at the top to attach any standard car shifter knob!

We were kind of discussing this in the Forza Horizon thread yesterday. Look at the Fanatec wheels :)

A fortnight later it has just arrived. Noticed the original link I posted for the TH8RS has returned to it's regular absolutely insane price! What a brilliant pickup.

I'll take a few photos later tonight and post my impressions of it when possible :)

Great deal for you indeed :) Will be interested to hear how smooth/firm the shifts are through the gate.

Let me start by saying that the build quality on this is fantastic. Heavy, metal, solid and mounted perfectly along side my wheel.

Truthfully I'm yet to actually use this with any games so far tonight, just finished having dinner and watching who's line is it anyway . Mounted the TH8RS is going to do the job well for many years to come, very very smooth to change it's position, much better then the plastic Fanatec H shiftier I have and the shiftier with the G25/27.......and you would damn well expect so for the apparent price of 200+ locally.

I'll give it an actual whirl on the weekend :). Just keen to get a few of my impressions posted along with photos.

Thats exactly the kind of words I was hoping to hear about it. A good shifter should feel strong and mechanical, and already it seems like that is the impression of it :)

Is it USB only? For example, if I was to bite the bullet and purchase one, would I be able to plug it directly into my Fanatec CSR wheel?

Looking at the first pic he posted Nuke, in the post above, if you look down the bottom left on the box it says USB, but directly into the Fanatec wheel might not be the go, not sure as it would depend then on how Window sees it for its drivers/config.

Edit lefty righty..bah!

Yes it is USB only. You will need to plug it into an additional USB port, unless the CSR has a usb hub built into it (i'm not familiar with that wheel).

Edited my original post the price has gone back up to 220aud+postage = a lot
