That awkward moment when you see an ad on telly for a local small-business cupcake business doing a "school holidays workshop" and the cupcake shown in the advert is a Coles bakery cupcake....... yes I know my cuppies!

Undergrad benefits look great but i'm not completely sure what the job entails - i always imagined most software for the military would be contracted out.

I take it that you have a background in software engineering or something like that then?

Hey comrades.
first allow me to hand you a beer.

ok?

I saw a post on a SA arts page on FB looking for artists to paint their music studio. Naturally as MuscularTeeth, i applied and thought i may or may not hear anything in a few weeks time.

I got a call back probably 30mins from when i sent the email with my application.
The guy hosting the competition told me; he saw MY stobie pole on the street one day, and that was made him decide to host the competition. He was hoping whoever did the stobie pole would apply. I was the first application.

I've told him to keep accepting applications, as hell, there are some amazing artists out there and i may not be the best. But how AMAZING it was to be the very inspiration behind the comp. Needless to say i deserve another beer.

You can see my stobie pole; http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid= ... =3&theater

For all you new crew i havent met, my pleasure to meetcha.

Nah i'm only one semester into my degree (uni sponsorship) so that's why I'm hesitant, but i'm liking it so far. Do you know any software engineers in the service? Do they enjoy it?

i did it (SE not military service) and didnt enjoy it.
my friend has, and has worked for a small private company linked to medical software and records, then to a police system thingy, and finally he was recently head hunted to IBM. He seems to enjoy it a lot.
I've met a few in british aerospace australia (BAE) in the DSTO some time back- they enjoyed their job too, though their average age seems to be in their 50's + so i wouldnt know a young mans perspective in that area.
if your being sponsored you clearly have some talent in the required fields, which is a good start.

they all seem private corps.
