A DayZ WTF? Moment...cheating / hacking?

Hi folks,

Thought I would post this question here, as the
" incident " I'm about to describe I'm fairly sure
occurred on a GON DayZ server....

Without going into too much detail of previous events,
what I thought was an excellent game of DayZ last night
( 30 zombie kills within an hour, a good supply of bandages, food, etc ) ,
was cut short by a group of 3 heavily-armed players driving
some form of vehicle, decked out in sniper camo gear,
who knew EXACTLY where I was on the map, despite me
being sufficiently hidden from view...

I gather I've been the victim of players using cheats / hacks, correct?

That would be my first conclusion. Without evidence that you can submit in a demo for the Admin team to review, unfortunately there is no way we can tell (nor could we discuss it in the forums anyway).

Well, I was in an enclosed yard behind a large building, so I do find it pretty suspicious they were able to pinpoint me so quickly...

Can you even find and equip uniforms in DayZ? leading me to the thought that these guys had hacked DayZ to use Arma II weapons and uniforms...

Agreed, i don't have any firm proof of hacking / cheating, but I get the vibe from the previous responses that GON DayZ servers seem to be " cheat / hack-free ", which i find hard to believe, and I certainly hope GON DayZ server admins are not allowing these unfair tactics...

Camo and Ghille suits were added back in with the latest patch (same with Helo's).

That isn't to say that they weren't hacking, but just that them having camo gear does not mean they were hacking.

Fair enough, well at least I can rule that option out....

Can I at least get a yes or no answer - does anyone know if a DayZ hack exists which pinpoints another player's location on the map or in a player's HUD?

Quite possibly, I suggest searching in Google if it really interests you that much. We generally try to avoid Hack discussion as all that does is encourage others to hack.

If it was BF3 I would say yeah sure, or if it was just Arma then again I am sure one exists, however as to if one exists for DayZ I am not entirely sure.

Well frankly, the only reason I'd want to further investigate DayZ hacks is to find out if I've been the victim of foul play.

DayZ is a challenging enough game as it is, let alone the experience be ruined by a bunch of cheating a**hats.

I know over the weekend some of the guys I play with came across some hackers :S we lost our truck which we had stock piled a large amount of gear it all because of one lot of hackers (eg they destroyed everything on the server). Then on a different server, an invisible hacker killed one of the other guys in our group. (eg he could see the name plate running up to him, but not the person, and then Bam shot dead...)

(Just to clarify none of this occurred on a GoN server)

I've seen that before, zombies were chasing an invisible player.

It's probably a bug.

while the mod exists in alpha, you can expect this kind of behavior. Yes the ability to pinpoint players on a map exists, yes it may have been used on you (though your account of events is so vanilla its only a maybe...actually i really doubt it)

My suggestion - as long as its alpha, don't get too attached to your stuff - you're bound to loose it one way or another. Just deal with it, accept that it'll happen to everyone eventually and play on.

ive said it many times and i'll say it again just so you know

the one thing that makes arma good is its modability ,which is also one of its biggest flaws cos its wide open to ppl using hack scripts (thats how you get mods and other addons to work)

so it will and has always been open to that kinda thing, the only saving grace was it had a fairly small player base, but now that its popular it brings out al lthe tards (hack scripts was a big issue when it was new and popular too)

so like moose says above dont get attached to yah stuff you WILL lose it prolably to the most stupidest things , like opening a door or crawling past a tree (yes ive died many times from opening toilet doors or garden gates onto me and going prone on the base ofa tree :S )

I suggest you just move on, whether you were a victim of hacks or not, otherwise you will end up just as bad as those who do hack.

Pretty much. Not to excuse the behaviour of **** hackers, DayZ is in Alpha and the Arma 2 base game is built around scripting, so it's quite trivial to get hacks and other enhancements over the vanilla experience.

Just go along with it, have a laugh if you have to, they'll leave eventually.
