Everybody in the games.on.net DayZ server just died

Unread postby supras989 » 15 Jun 12, 12:28 am

I can't remember which number it is, but it was the Veteran room, everybody got teleported up to the sky and fell to their death... I'm not that bothered as I didn't have much but for some1 who had a lot of time in their character this is very very weird and very unfortunate, I'm posting this incase it was some sort of cheater or mod playing a cruel prank, the only people who survived were on ladders as far as I know. Happened at about 12:54 ish. Is there any sort of rollback?

Thanks :)

i was on anz7 and a jet spawned on top of me and seemingly every other player. Everyone was complaining about getting in the jet and then dying.

I didnt get in the jet - didnt die :) (thought it was too good to be true)

looks like its not the first time

I think the hackers name was <name removed>? but not 100% sure about that...

Yeah... people falling from the sky is a hack...

The jet spawning would be someone using hacks or just a sneaky mod

People dying when they try to get in is something Rocket has coded into his mod. Silly silly them. Nobodies fault but theirs really.

without the scrip execution prtection that servers like AUSARMA servers have its a script kiddie parade on anz7 and 8.

Yesterday we had a guy teleporting around invisible killing people, then he realised he could teleporting vehicles and started stealing those too.

Someone spawned an AH-6, which my group saw on the beach, and unlike the C-130s that got spawned in on everyone this AH-6 could be got into, so we went down south and got it ready to fly with fuel/repairs whatever [I was in overwatch with a sniper rifle] and took it away.
once our guys were all safely out I was going to take it off the edge of the map into the ocean so no one would find/use it [unsure if it would have respawned if we blew it up] but then one of the script kiddies teleported to the heli and killed me instantly, then the server crashed and I couldn't get back in.

We literally had someone teleport our blue/white ural away after killing 2 of our guys next to it.
it just blipped away NE of us.

I think this script stuff is whats causing most of the lag/desync/instability on the servers.

It was out of control tonight.

i thought everyone mentioning ac130's were spawning was a bit strange but then i saw them all lol .

these two servers need to be locked down properly or give some of the ausarma guys some control over these as they know how to lock the servers down correctly .

Same place they have always been, Out of interest did you fill out a Trouble Maker Report and submit it with conclusive evidence?

Yup unfortunately ArmA loves taking client scripts.

In say battlefield, you tried to spawn a tank the server would say 'nope, there's no tank there'.
With ArmA on the other hand, the server takes these scripts and accepts them " "A10" createVehicle (position player); " Now there's an A-10 in the server! How did that get there?

Battleeye really doesn't do sh*t all without having a blacklist of script commands of sorts, GoN NEEDS to get on the level of other servers in terms of script protection similar to what AusArmA have done otherwise this will keep happening. What is being done now has always been possible there just hasn't really been a community of people wanting to hack stuff until DayZ.

In terms of patching our little problem, it's a problem with ArmA itself and to avoid it happening I think that only BIS can do something to patch it, meanwhile server admins need to step it up.

Hacking was so bad Rocket shut down Hive today. It was down for about 20 minutes before they identified the hackers, gave them bans and put Hive back on line.

During that time no-one could connect on any DayZ server.

DayZ is high maintenance. It's as simple as that. Admins need to be proactive in securing the servers, updating patches, and keeping up to date with DayZ forums. It's going to get a whole lot worse before it gets better.

Yo Tigz, in my defense I only played it for a few weeks after it first came out :P

Yeah... My worst fears were realised. A+ titles always have big problems with hackers, and I knew with a large influx of players, a relatively niche game like ArmA would be torn apart. I suspected BIS, Battleye and Rocket wouldn't be able to cope with all the **** out there who like to wreck other people's ****, unfortunately I was correct. Good luck to them in fixing the issue... Until then I guess it's up to server admins to find other means to stay protected, as previously stated.

Worst part is, these a*sholes filter through to other game modes too...

ArmA has always had problems with hackers because anybody can do it. My only programming experience is some Visual Basic in year 9 and it still took me all of 10 minutes to make a script that let me drop arty shells (or cars, or civilians, or anything else for that matter) anywhere I clicked on the map back when we were all playing the first ArmA. I could also teleport, jump (and by jump, think "leap over tall buildings with a single bound") and activate god mode, among other things.

Southy got hold of the proper 'hacker' script which we used so we could fly migs and other planes that he'd ported from OFP when we were all bored of storming Parasio. It was far more complex and had more options, but my 'tests' showed my 10 minute script could be just as annoying. Having an endless rain of LGBs land at your airfield is not fun. I'm sure with some minor tweaks (and probably even as is for the most part, since almost everything other than some object names are the same) the same script would work in an unprotected ArmAII and likely also an ArmAIII server.

Not sure what can be done about it though. The game is specifically designed for maximum modder friendliness. This is one of ArmA's greatest strengths, and unfortunately also one of it's greatest vulnerabilities.

I still don't understand why all these functions aren't disabled server-side [perhaps with files distributed with the dayz server side mod files] so that it doesn't happen from the get-go.

we have a LOT of script restrictions on our servers.

So far ANZ1-4 has only had the odd map marker, crate and weapon spawner (have all been banned). As soon as someone attempts to spawn a vehicle, bombs and **** like that they are booted off the server and the script fails. I think what we have setup prevents 95% of the the nuke/wipe out all player hacks but I'm sure i'll eat my own words soon enough.

I have to check the logs DAILY and apply bans. It's a pain in the arse but it's the only way at the moment unfortunately. The good thing is all I have to do is search for "script restriction" in the logs and I find everyone who has been kicked for trying to hack. Makes it much easier. I think because I ban so many people they are all wondering around the other servers and thus you will be getting hit a bit more, I already noticed a few names on ANZ11.

You can check out my list here:
