- make my wait up the tower and check some stuff.
- do the usual surroundings check.
- all clear.
- phone rings.
- needs some details so I alt tab.
- 1 min later come back with 5 zombies around me.

I feel your pain, the longest I've managed is three days .. I seem to fail when playing solo (also it's not as fun) and when people attempt to help me, I get them killed :(

I did however take out two bandits from a tower with my CZ that refused to acknowlege my intentions .. which was pretty satisfying. Maybe I avenged you Moose :D

Log onto an American server with 3/50.

Chances are they'll be at Starry or NW, but it will make it easier to escape.

What's going on with the servers? I can't join any of them, I either get stuck on loading or waiting for character. Right after I find a god damn M16 as well. Rage.

What beta patch?

I'd love, LOVE to be able to play this stupid game, but I've never been able to get the damn thing working. I've run the game as an administrator, I've got the Six updater, I've got Combined Operations, it flat out doesn't want to work, I get booted back to the main menu as soon as the place loads.

EDIT - NVM. Had some help, but figured the swine of a thing out in the end.

Just deleted my DayZ install and re-did it through SixLauncher, seems OK now. I finally also scored an easy gun and loot in Pav. Finally getting the hang of this I think... 30 lives later.

The better guns are almost always found inland but the odd 1 or 2 can be found in Cherno or Elektro.
While everyone seems to want to find the more elusive guns they are not integral to your survival in the game.

The M1911 will take out zeds in one hit no matter if it's a headshot or a shot in the big toe.

Silenced weapons are by far the most useful as they won't attract the horde if you need to take out 1 zed who may be wandering to close.

The sniper rifles are for player killers plain and simple, whilst you could sit back and ping docile zeds from 1000m most people won't and trying to shoot and aggro'd zed from beyond 10m would be a challenge.

That being said it doesn't mean the rifles can't be used to your benefit if you're not a bandit.
The other night when I came across not only the DMR but also the M107 and hiked my way back to the coast, I was reading chat log about people getting shot in cherno, so I set up camp about 500m from the outskirt of town and started scanning.

It wasn't long before some shooting lead me to find a bandit sniper shooting from one of the silo structures, made a guess at the range, zeroed the M107 and fired.
The noise the M107 makes is massive and I expected every zed to come running but thankfully none did and for the rest of the night I became an Anti-Bandit taking out players seeking elevated positions for camping.

With my character still in play last night there was no chatter about snipers and only requests for help.
So I slung the rifles and spent the night travelling the coast dispensing morphine, blood and cooked food, and this really shows the depth this game has as 1 night you can be gunning away and the next night not firing a shot even though I stumbled across 2 people is the fading light.

good man. this is what we need more of - too many players are taking the easy targets ie. unarmed newbies. I reckon there needs to be atleast something positive that comes out of killing players who have high murder totals (ie bandits).

the thing is, i had tried that, and for some reason it wasnt coming up. and the reason i didnt want to google any dayz installation process was theres so many ones out there, i trust the GoN write up more. anyway your link did show the internode page that i wanted, whereas my own google searches weren't, so thanks, you gave me what i needed.
