Type it 200 times a day and see if you still feel the same way.

I say as often as it's asked. When I was new I asked the same questions, and got polite answers. Now I am a competent player and assist new players.

Ball0fire wrote:yeah and now imagine having an open Rcon session going ,replying to those questions on 2 servers at the same time for hours on end....

The fact that you added in complaints about other parts of your duties just says to me that even you don't really believe your excuses. The idea is to grow the community, not shut it down to a group of people who were lucky enough to get the answers before you got tired of giving them.

If helping newbs like myself is so hard its much easier just to not post or reply.

This sums it up nicely.

Don't reply at all. But if you're the admin, most definitely don't reply with rude remarks that don't help anyone.

If you can't do that, then maybe you should quit.

EDIT: New patch is legit. 1.7 finally runs nicely.

The latest beta changes the black/white values so that when you crank the gamma it's still virtually black and white rather than gray, HDR also has no effect. On a moonlit night it's clear in the open but under trees it's dark as hell.

SkenZ wrote:Its a shame it has to have to holo sight on it. Could have been a good weapon otherwise haha

I don't mind the holo, better for range shooting than an Aimpoint IMO because the dot pulls less of that fuzzy ****, you can also use the right either to hold low in CQB or for accurate leading etc at range. The Aimpoint might have slightly better fov but the dot pisses me off, not only is it of the large variety but the art for it is just crappy and hinders ranged shooting.

edit: Jnr just log into a daytime server for 15 minutes and find yourself some flares/chemlights, they're still pretty common.

Man that sucks Jnr. You're screwed.

If only there was other servers you could join that had different time-zones, then you could pick up some flares and chem-lights, and hop back on the server.

If only...

I'd give Ball0 some slack. He's usually very helpful, and monitors the servers at work and at home. DayZ is full of people that are too lazy to read a manual that came with the game, or do a simple tutorial mission, or look up the keyboard options. Instead they think it's acceptable to waste other people's time to save themselves a bit of time. Of course Ball has no responsibility to answer player questions, so he should simply ignore questions and leave it up to other players to answer.

So there I was all gear up to head inland, so off I go.

Have a nice quiet wander when I decide I'll check out Zelenogorsk seeing as I have never been there before.

So I make my way there rather uneventfully and upon reaching the town and having a browse I accidentely aggro'd a Zed. In my haste to get away a ran into one of those bushes that you can't run thru which gave the Zed enough reach to give me a swat and down I went with a fractured leg...D'OH!

So after dispersing with the Zed and his 15 cohorts I go to my inventory for some morphine and to my horror had none, quickly into my backpack and even greater horror...none there either.

Having already cleared the town I made the decision to head to green Mountain radio antenna.
So I crawl my crippled **** all the way from Zelenogorsk to the Antenna and what do I find...NOTHING, 1 bunch of stinking tin cans and S.F.A else.
I put the call out for help and surprisingly someone offered to help, I asked where he was located and he replied he was in Elektro.

I told him not to worry about it as it would take him 20 mins just to get there, but he ignored me and set off on his way.
So rather than sit on my **** I headed NW as I seen a cluster of buildings that might be my saviour, so off I crawled.
After another long crawl I reached my destination only to get my hopes dumped on again (although I did find a pump action shotty).

The decision was made now to head SW to Sosnovka so I informed the courier with the morphine to divert West of his position and meet me there.
I arrived at Sosnovka about 2 mins before my courier, when he did arrive he indicated to me to head to the outskirt of the north edge of town which I did and as I round a fence I could see him bathed in a white almost blinding light...almost angelic like.

My arduous journey was almost complete only 20 more metres to my salvation...then the server crashed and still hasn't come back up yet some 15 minutes later.

Image

TL;DR
Crawled my way half way across the map with broken leg and within sight of help the server died.

I've dealt with a lot of server admins during my games journalism stuff, and ball0 is definitely above and beyond the rest.

He's dedicated, and the ArmA community (in Australia) owes him an incredible amount.

Freeborne is right though. I resent the DayZ community more than words can describe, simply because of all the kiddies that buy it off of Steam, choose not to do any tutorials or learn the game at all, then get pissy when others tell them to **** off due to their incessant "HOW DO I GO 3RD PERSON?!"-esque questions.

That wasn't just my personal supply.

Ball0fire really is the man who keeps GON Arma II going, he spends countless hours behind the seen oiling the nuts and bolts. Much respect to the man.

I had an epic run last night...

I rejoined my (about a week old) character in Dolina and headed north, and came across a factory north of Dolina which I explored but found a whole lot of vehicle parts which wasn't what I was looking for. Unfortunately, I also managed to upset a horde of zombies in the process. After fending off a bunch of grumpy undead, I ran out of g17 ammo and had to switch to the noisier AK74kobra, which attracted more visitors before I could run, and ended up dying shortly afterwards.

On respawning, I figured I was in the very south west corner, west of Kamenka across the bay. Silly me, I figured it might be quicker to swim across rather than running around the coast to the next town, but in the process, lost all of my gear except for one bandage :(. Figured I had nothing left to lose, I just kamikaze crouchran into town and got surprisingly far before being spotted, so I just stood up full and legged it out of town, 20 zombies following me with nothing but a bandage for defence.

After an epic marathon of running east, changing direction behind trees at full sprint, I gradually dropped off my chase pack, down to one or two, who I finally lost on the outskirts of Komarovo (thankfully I didn't have to run into the town and pick up another pack!) near a stone wall, which I snuck along into the forest to the north. Just inside the edge of the forest, I heard a swarm of flies off to the side and couldn't believe my luck when there was a survivors body just lying there, no zombies or other survivors to be seen.

Payday! They had everything I needed, water, food and more: an alice pack filled with meat, flares, chemlights, more beans, survival gear including matches, hatchet, compass & watch, binocs, a Glock 17 with ammo, and a M16/m203 assault rifle :D

I continued north for a bit more and came across a small farm with a well in the middle, picked up another two waterbottles and refilled them, then headed for the forest before logging out. I should be good now for another couple of days in the wilderness :)

The admin's job is to keep the game running, not act as a living manual for people who lack common sense. I'm fine with helping people if they have trouble with DayZ specific things, but anyone who asks about base ArmA controls will just get an "rtfm" from me.

I absolutely agree with everything you guys are saying. I understand that an Admin is (usually) a voluntary job, and that this **** takes a lot of patience, and I respect that.

But to come out on a public forum and have a 3 line tirade about 'noob questions' when someone has asked a very reasonable question is just to me, unacceptable.

As far as Arma II controls go, I'm forgiving of anyone asking Q's about them, purely and simply because this game has what appears to be the most eccentric mapping of controls for any FPS I've ever played. Asking 'why is it so dark' and 'how do i go third person' seem fine to me, because my brain was immediately taken up with working out how walk, crouch and run worked to avoid zombies.

I say again, just because you were lucky enough to figure it out/get answers, don't forget that you were new. The community requires the vets to help the runts so that it can advance.

I don't mind if someone goes and has a private joke with someone about someone's newness, but I'm going to call them out if they publicly shame someone in a bullying fashion over such a completely reasonable action.

And if I've just alienated myself from everyone here for that, so be it.

As a long term player of the OFP/Arma series I'd just like to mention that people like you are the reason I stopped playing the game online before Dayz, I got sick of the elitist attitude of people like you who drive players out of the community.

If you don't like the questions then stop reading them, nobody is forcing you to be the big "know it all" and pipe up all the time, just play your own game and ignore the "noobs". The Dayz community has revitalized Arma in a way that you never could, more players = good... even if you don't like sharing your secret clubhouse.
