I learned a very valuable life lesson today, I spent the first hour running with a pair of guys i met and we met a couple of like minded individuals, server went down and when I got back in tonight I came across another survivor in my travels..

him: "you friendly man?"

me: "sure am"

him: "****, get down"

This ^ is the point where he shoots me in the back of the head and then crawls over and starts rummaging through my gear, didn't even get his name so I can keep an eye out lmao.

Another victim of the "are you friendly joke"

Honestly if you see another player just avoid them (or shoot them if they haven't seen you yet). Your better of getting some of your friends involved on TS than trying to make contact with a random.

Happens more often at night because loners will wait in the dark for a illuminated moving cache of goodies to walk past.

All of this will be fixed with a so called morality system that was going to brought in over the weekend.

Freeborne's 20 tips and tricks for DayZ:
http://www.ausarma.org/topic/1113-dayz-zombie-mod/

Proposed morality system, in effect today I believe is just changing uniforms for players after they kill 3 or 4 players 'recently'. There's really a dozen problems with the current environment and PvP, and this seems a very weak, flawed system. It will improve with updates but for now, it's still dangerous to trust anyone and hang around the coastal areas.

I played about 8 hours yesterday on AEF server. Pretty good crowd there, with low pings. Joined AUSCOG one first but saw lots of 200+ ping players. Performance was quite good on AEF until after 10PM, and it never crashed once from 4PM to 11PM. :2gunsfiring_v1:

Plus, AEF server supports ts.ausarma.org so you get all the clan players, who are all generally decent mature players. AUSCOG has it's own good mature players too, but only about 4-6 active vs the 30+ clanners from AusArmA. AUSCOG has a faster server privately funded, but AEF 'should' have better bandwidth, have been around for yonks, and aren't going anywhere soon. Find the AEF players on ts.ausarma.org, or AUSCOG crew on OGN TS3 server. I'll probably be on AEF server 9/10 times if anyone is looking for a ride in my lada.

Luckily the only people I've come across so far have been nothing but friendly. A bit disorganised, but still friendly. Was surprised when we gathered a group of five and started heading to Chernogorsk, then a couple of z's appeared and the group splintered off in every direction despite our overwhelming advantage. Made me lol. Shame the server went down then because we were just starting to regroup :(

I've heard that most of the PvPers tend to hand around Chernogorsk, so I might go there and have a peek at what the going is like later... If I can find a time when there's a slot open on the server

Journal entry - Day 5.

Found some cooked meat, but it was off.
Now suffering from horrific intestinal issues. Other survivors won't group with me.

Journal entry - Day 6.

Feeling better. Met a survivor, his name was 'Baskerville'. He seemed friendly, I followed correct protocol and asked if he was friendly. I even used capitals. I have logged the conversation:

Me: "Hello survivor Baskerville! ARE YOU FRIENDLY?"
Survivor Baskerville: " For crying out loud, don't yell. Are YOU friendly?"
Me: "No...see I asked first"
Survivor Baskerville: "Well that may be, but I want to know if YOU are friendly"
Me: "Yes...no, well yes I understand that, however I'm just trying to establish if you are friendly then I can establish that I'm friendly."
Survivor Baskerville: "Ok fine. Yes I'm friendly. Are you friendly?"
Me: "Oh yes, I'm very friendly!"
Survivor Baskerville: (mumbled something like "Jesus Christ")..."Right, so we're friendly?"
Me: "Who is? What...?"
Survivor Baskerville: "Oh **** hell...."

What a friendly guy.

Is Ted Danson, sorry Brian friendly?

You get a few PVP'ers out in the wilderness too they tend to hang around the local watering holes due to the fact people visit them to fill up.

Anyone figured out how to use torches? I've grabbed a couple but there's no scroll option and trigger doesn't work.

It's like using a flashlight on a G18, you equip it in the pistol slot and press L to toggle the light.

I think someone should make up a quick tip sheet?

Including such things as what its needed to get food from an animal, how to get certain weapons and if you can attach flash lights to them, and also things to do with flares and what not?

Aussie servers are all gone :(

Was there a patch that couldn't be implemented overnight or something?

That latest patch made US servers playable, made it all the way up to Devil's Castle on foot from Elektrozavodsk with only a single server crash.
Unfortunately I think something went wrong with my character data because when I try to join another server after quitting in Devils Castle I get stuck on a 'Loading' bar.
It's a shame because I thought I had gathered some decent equipment on my trek through infected Chernarus.

Nah you'll be fine, some servers are just iffy tonight, hey just went to 1.45 and now i cant even launch arma.

edit: if anyone is going to play regularly and is looking for a partner then hit me up, I spent 40 minutes today counter-stalking 2 idiots who thought they were sneaking up on me and I'm starting to get jittery.

After reading this thread and watching some videos on Youtube I have decided to pick up Arma 2 and download this mod, looks like a lot of fun!

So if anyone is willing to show a noob the ropes or if anyone is looking to band together let me know.
