Tips for a Bounty Hunter

Tips for a Bounty Hunter

Unread postby ^3xiler » 2 Jan 12, 5:48 pm

Gday guys,

Just wondering, would anybody be able to give me a few basic tips? Im very new to the MMO scene, having only played DCUO before, and I find myself playing the game more like KOTOR than an online game, ignoring all others and not participating in any PvP. Im currently a level 12 Powertech and would love to start being a team player, but I dont know where to begin. Also, Whats the deal with PvP armour? can you only use it in PvP events? cheers.

PvP armour is not any different than other armour at the same level, it's just bought using PvP tokens, which you earn from pvp, so you can gear up without doing PvE. If you're doing questing concurrently, the pre-50 pvp gear is not really worth buying unless you like the looks, because a few levels of questing will out date it.

Also playing a bounty hunter is easy. You just mash buttons and things die.

Yes, I find this to be a fairly accurate comment.
Cheers for that, clears things up a bit. What about regular armour? I've found that there is a very large range in the shared marketplace, it's a bit overwhelming...is it just a case of find armour that suits your level and looks good? Or is some more suitable for each class than others?

Every class has a preferred class of armour and then stats - bounty hunters use heavy armour with aim on it. When levelling though the best armour is the orange class armour with the most up-to-date mods bought from commendation vendors. The commendations you get from flashpoints and quests.

Here's a couple of pictures to show what I'm talking about.

I'm level 40, so in the first picture you can see the item, and the three mods I have in it are level 40 mods, so they have (40) beside them. It's these mods alone that give the item stats. The second picture is what they look like inside the helmet. As I go up levels, I keep the base item, but just replace the internal components. That upgrades the item to the new level of the mods.

Ahh, fantastic. Very helpful. Thanks Marius, your character looks very impressive
How have you found the PvP events so far? I'm loving the storyline quests, are flashpoints, etc. just as entertaining?

Haven't done a heap of PvP.

Flashpoints (group pve) are fun. They take a little dip in involvement for a bit but pick up once you get to level 38. The level 38 flashpoint is much more entertaining than the level 10 flashpoint (Esseles/Talon).

Have run it three times so far. It's a great story, and you do get a lot of Hoth commendation tokens, so have been able to go on a buying spree, which is where I got all that gear from.

High end PvP armor has expertise modifiers. Expertise is a PvP attribute that increases your damage and reduces damage received, only in PvP. So it is different.

I'm a Bounty Hunter Mercenary, about level 25 last i played. I've done a fair bit of PvP almost at rank 20, being your current level i would definitely recommend doing some Warzones now while you're a lower level so you get used to your current skills & whatnot.

You get good Exp from PvP aswell i've found, and while you're doing this you can collect the Warzone commendations, try to get 1400 by the time you hit lvl 20 then you can get the full armour set, implants and ear piece. It won't last you for ages as Marius said but it's free so i think it's still worth it, i'm still using it at 25 but will upgrade in a few levels.

I can't comment on Powertech tips however as Mercenary plays entirely different. I'd have a look at this Bounty Hunter FAQ on the SWTOR forums, it put me on a good start. http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=544

Lies :P Maybe as a Powertech, but Mercenary you have to be on the ball with your shots and CC, if a melee closes in mashing buttons will not help =P

Go and do Black Talon if you haven't already, its fun and newb friendly. There are some good low level drops in here.

You've specced into the Tanking side of BH, so you're one the mobs are supposed to be hitting while other people kill them. As Marius said you want lots of +aim and +endurance on your heavy armor.

Grouping up and doing the heroic quests will let you learn how to be a team player with very little pressure too.

Thanks for the advice guys. I tried some PvP today, it was a lot of fun, but I still prefer the storyline. Also the latency is a bit of a downer. Can't wait for those aussie servers! Tranquil, good find on bounty hunter thread, helped a bit.
Good hunting!

Anyone tried huttball yet?

Latency isn't a problem in pvp. People with 20 ping next to the servers are also reporting ability activation time delays.

So the Aussie servers will do nothing. The problem is on Bioware's end.

Latency is always a problem. Aussie servers will be great for PvP. The only real issue is that they (potentially) won't be populated...

I wear it because it's classic Star Wars. It's from The Empire Strikes Back.
