Heh, I've been doing this on my Smuggler. It fits the character and it's a nice money spinner and finder of random things.
Treasure Hunting also has lockboxes though they sometimes contain an item rather than credits, or an item AND credits.

I have a feeling a balance pass may be coming on Slicing. ;)

Yeah I can see a nerf coming soon, pretty sure they already nerfed it though during Beta

Why the hell would you need a tutorial for slicing. It's free money on a cool down timer. What more do you need to know?

It's more just a heads up for people that didn't know about it.

Slicing
Rewards from Slicing have been reduced to bring them into balance with other skills.
Adjusted incorrect values for medium slicing boxes.

From last nights patchnotes. :(

I'm finding PvP a very easy way to make credits. Some nice XP also.

Slicing still makes plenty of credits.

I make about a 20% return on missions, and when you are constantly sending 4-5 companions out on slicing missions, that adds up to a lot.

So if 5 missions each costing 1,000 creds are done every 20 minutes, that means I'm making $3,000 every hour or so, without having to actually do much.

On top of that, the missions will sometimes bring back purple missions for other professions which sell on the auction house for a lot.

err, you get about that for doing a 15min PvP match... Plus Champion PvP bags have $4k to $6k in them (800 warzone tokens to buy, which is probably about 10-15 pvp matches all up on average, and you also get them for the daily/weekly pvp quests). The dailies will also net you about $10k on completion, plus any extra for doing the bonus kill quests. Space missions are another quick and easy credit income.

Slicing is really poor by pretty much any other method to get money unless your goal is to sell the Augments/Schematics on the AH. I'd highly recommend an actual set of crew skills for crafting instead of slicing. Biochem, Cybertech and Artifice probably being the most useful choices. Endgame armour outclasses Armourmech, Armstech and Synthweaving, though they can still be handy for pre-hard mode flashpoints/Champion PvP gear as well as equipping your companions.

Slicing requires virtually zero effort and you can also do warzones and things at the same time. ;)

As Mythor said, slicing can be done on top of other missions. I also have found it the most useful levelling profession. It's helped pay for all the stuff I like to buy during levelling quite nicely.

Whether slicing is better replaced by a gathering skill at end game depends on the prices at the auction house. I've been leveling Cybertech not using gathered mats other than what I've found from droid scavening, rather I just buy the stuff I need from other players. Since the end game crafted gear is once-off and reusable, and afaik bind on pickup (ie. you can't make any profit selling it) I'm not anticipating ongoing crafting to be important for me once I make my first set of grenades or custom speeder.

Not a big fan of the armstech/armourtech professions either since commendations are so easy to come by. Three x Maelstrom Prison runs and the story quests on Hoth gave me enough commendations to buy the entire Hoth set of gear for both me and my companion.

But you can use the gear you're making whilst levelling, and without the appropriate mission skill you wont be able to make the blue/purple versions of them. You also cannot make the blue/purple versions without the mats from the associated mission skill that you're missing out on. You're required to craft a blue, then crit on a reverse engineer to get the purple schematic and that can take alot of mats that you'll be forced to buy off the AH. Not to mention that there are multiple blue and purple schematics treeing off from the same green base item. You're also missing out on an income of Companion Gifts - PL your companions affection through gifts makes a noticeable difference on completion times on the crew skills, especially when you're looking at 1 to 2hr companion missions...

Literally the only thing you'll need money for at level50 is buying the Speeder training. Rank 2 is $210k and rank 2 is $330k, on top of the cost of the mount itself. But if you hold off burning creds on those then you'll have plenty of cash for everything else. I'm easily sitting around $400k with constant expenditure on crew missions simply by doing PvP and dailies to easily keep my income balanced with my expenses. I'll eventually get around to getting the r3 mount, but the only thing it's really useful for is the RvR lake on Illum. The first speeder you get suffices for any PvE content.

Also, the purple level 49-50 crafted gear outclasses all the planet commendation stuff. The daily commendations can be used to buy armouring mods of the same rating as the purple crafted, but bracers and belts for example can't take mods. Plus you'll need the other two mods to keep your Oranges up to the same ratings as the crafted Purples.
