That's a bit presumptuous. :P

Combat gameplay design involves many factors.

For every thing that could be done, there are other alternatives. What gets implemented depends on the design goals and the target audience.

It's rare to be able to make a strong argument that something is outright good or bad, aside from obvious bugs, because different audiences will like different things.

I was just questioning what you said to try and get more detail. I'm curious. You didn't really provide much detail except on why you think others don't understand game systems. :P

There's two reasons nobody would understand you. The first is that you're not explaining it well enough. The second is that your explanation is contrary to the evidence.
If there's a legitimate basis to your opinion then you need to come up with a better way of explaining it. Not try and tell everyone they're too stupid to understand it. :?

i don't really see the point of me sitting here typing a essay about it, its a waste of time reading it and writing it because it won't change what people think about the game atm

maybe when the hype about it being a new game dies down, a lot of people can't get over the new game thing even if the gameplay is medicore, i was the same with Warhammer online :P

Warhammer Online combat was bad. Many abilities were slow to activate, and the animations didn't match up. I don't have those issues in TOR, however.

*Scratches cheek* You know, I didn't think I would say this, but... well, I hated WoW for the very reasons Gabe from PA mentioned previously - WoW characters don't really have 'character' apart from how they look, which is entirely shallow. I might have to give this one a try. The fact we'll be getting servers next March really solidifies it. See you in there?

You'll want a west coast RP server because the ping to them is 180 - 200, rather than the 260 - 300 of the east coast servers.

I have characters on Vrook Lamar RP-PvE and Ajunta Pall RP-PvP. Right now I think I'll make Vrook my main, since it's not really an open world PvP game, and more RP'ers congregate in the RP-PvE servers. But you can sitll do PvP in the warzones, which are PvP instances, and my experience is that's mostly what people PvP in in these games.

I've had good experiences on both servers, however. There are others to choose from as well. If I wasn't on Vrook, I'd go on Beregen Colony.

If you just want to RP and do nothing else, I guess you could give one of the east coast RP servers a shot. Some of those, like Jung Ma, and Addrast, have lots of RP guilds.

Warhammer Online had the best pvp i've ever played in an MMO.

Was decent PvP, but that's a little different to combat gameplay. I found it really slow compared to games like Age of Conan, which was much more fluid.

I find with TOR the game has a lot of the fluidity I enjoy. I play a fairly stationary class, the gunslinger, but still do a lot of attacks on the move - constantly using flurry, thermal grenade, shock charge, quick shots etc. It's not a play style I found in WAR.

Also playing on Vrook, the community seems pretty decent so far. Though I personally haven't seen that much RP, haven't really sought it out though either as I'm too busy enjoying the epic stories :D

Hey Shadow, the website has crazy high traffic and they've had to slow/stop people entering details. I'm in the same boat as you. Time for a night of BF3 I think.

The combat in TOR for me is fine. It's exactly what I expect from an MMO which is quasi turn based button pushing. I guess I can't see how it could be clunky in that you press a button, skill happens (eventually).

Well, clunkiness can be caused by inefficient skill rotations.

I played a gunslinger all the way to level 20 with it feeling a bit 'off', because I was really just using whatever I felt like...

So when I started my new gunslinger I paid more attention to my skills. Now there's no delays whatsoever because every skill is more closely chained.

The example I've been using in this thread is my thermal grenade rotation for taking down groups of mobs. Thermal grenade is an instant AoE ability on a 3 second cooldown (with utility belt), and the global cooldown is 1.5 seconds. So I thermal grenade everything, then do a skill like flurry, flashbang, or quick shots, and by now 3 seconds of global cooldowns have elapsed, so grenade is up again.

Rinse and repeat and everything dies really fast, because you're ripping through groups with AoE. For tough opponents throw in a shock charge or sabotage charge, both of which are instant abilities as well.

It's not clunky at all because everything is on the move and cooldowns match up exactly.

Same problem. Paypal has even taken $1 out of my account but I still get the error.

Playing Operative, the only animation that has trouble lining up with the ability is my channel heal.

For those who don't know this is the no energy spam ability that you use between your other stuff to keep your energy high (and regen high)

The animation involves me taking a scanner out of my pocket and 'scanning' the target 3 times. I find that sometimes the scanner disappears or it is just poorly timed when doing the ability back to back.

Everything else is just so smooth and makes it such an enjoyment to play over other MMO's. I guess I do enjoy roll based rpg's (NWN, WoW) then I do action rpg's (DCUO, The Witcher) So some of the qq's about the combat being like WoW doesn't bother me at all. Also no auto-attacks seems to work great.

Story immersion is also fantastic. I was having trouble with a class quest and was going to look up some tips but stopped myself because I was worried I would stumble on to something that would spoil the story. In a MMO I was worried about the story.

I still have not done any PvP and only 1 flashpoint. Just flying around in my ship doing my intelligence thing.
