Seriously large queue times

Seriously large queue times

Unread postby AspeN » 17 Dec 11, 12:31 pm

Ok, so there's been a few posts regarding queue times, if you haven't been invited to early access yet or are planning to play the game on release be afraid, be very afraid. Queues on the Swiftsure server are currently in excess of 1 hour 45 mins so take this as a bit of expectation management.

From all accounts, rumours suggest that population caps on the servers are low to discourage new players from joining high population servers to "spread the load" however I can't confirm this but one would think this is currently in effect. This is what you get when you dick on Aussies for the release of a new MMORPG but now I just hope all the Americans playing on our self-acclaimed Oceanic server move elsewhere. Sigh.

Check the queue on this:

Staggered release should have told you that they didn't think their servers were up to the task, dunno why you're surprised.

I see a lot of posts from Australians and Americans blaming each other. But...

Everyone who complains about this seems to lack a basic understanding of time zones. In Australian prime playing time, it will be 2AM in America, and therefore won't compete with sleeping Americans. In American prime playing time, it will be noon - early afternoon in Australia, and with most Australians at work then, Australians won't contribute to server overload.

The only the only problem will be on a weekend. This weekend convergence is what you're seeing now. But to do a proper comparison, you'll need a weekly viewpoint, rather than a snap judgment from the opening weekend.

In short, recognise that most of your playing time will be when the other country is at work or sleeping and stop blaming each other.

If the servers are still overloaded in Aus nightly playing time, the only people to blame are Australians for trying to stick an entire country into a single server.

There's always going to be an overlap considering where you live but what do you expect when there's no appreciation of other regions needs, ultimately they can do what they want because it's their game but if you want a successful product you cater for the market period.

Swiftsure queue will be longer because Aussies deliberately stacked up on it, rather than letting Bioware do most of the assignments through the pre-launch guild program.
I had a 20-30 minute queue to play today, which is really quite reasonable given that you end up with a lot more people around as a result. But I stuck with the server Bioware assigned to my guild instead of going to the "popular" one. ;)

Can't **** and moan at Bioware over this, there's little to no queueing on many of the other servers. You might just have to deal with it. :)

Think they'll do another unoffical server? I don't mind it when I have the day off and I can log in the morning when there is no queue, but 2 hours wait when I get home from works a little joykilling :P.

I have a practical solution.

Before you go to work, log in when the queues are not bad.

Then set up a drinking bird on your keyboard to periodically make your character move slightly, so the game doesn't boot you for being afk.

As an alternative, set up an 8 hour long macro.

Then when you get back home, you'll be already logged in.

Best case scenario, they wake the **** up and realize Australians need their own server.

A single server can't serve the needs of an entire country. As Mythor pointed out, the problem is due to stacking a single server in the first place. I don't think Bioware need to put in any measures against this, because the problem was player caused, and the solution is player-driven.

If Australian guilds had divided themselves more evenly over the two 'unofficial oceanic' west coast PvP servers, queues would be more reasonable. I admit, it's a rather hard thing to do - is like herding cats. But the problem always results when people try and make a super server, whether that's for oceanic, or RP, or whatever.

As evidence, we see the same problems caused by the pre-launch RP guilds on Junta. Because of their actions in trying to make a single RP server to the detriment of others, it has some of the biggest queues. And it's counter-productive because it's led many RPers to roll on other RP servers to get away from queues.

The game's population is just too big to support the one server or bust approach.

It's put me off buying the game. I was going to grab it so I could play with my clanmates, but if 1-2 hour wait times are the norm, then I'll save my money.

They're not the norm, as already stated above.

am afraid to log in and see the queue, think all we can do is give it time nothing much to do.

There are easier ways to do it. But the negative is you're taking up a slot that could be used by a player.
