Moderate NAT - how to change it to Open?

How do I get my NAT type from "Moderate" to "Open" on PC?

Magic.

Probably the same port as what was used for MW2 needs to be opened.

I found a guide on portforward.com and followed that but I still have a moderate NAT. I'm fresh out of ideas as Google isn't really helping either (the results that come up are asking about 360 or PS3 versions).

I wouldn't really worry about it, having moderate NAT doesn't really seem to interfere with your ability to find a game. It might stop you from being made host, but that's not necessarily a bad thing considering that it's somewhat fraught with security risks.

I have a feeling that my moderate NAT is causing a delay in connecting to the master servers (and sometimes not even connecting at all).

Could be. It currently says my NAT is moderate and I've had no trouble connecting to the master server.

I think I've found the problem as to why my NAT is moderate even with the appropriate ports open.

I rebooted my router and loaded up MW3 without playing on my 360 first and my NAT was open. I loaded it up again today after playing on my 360 and it's back to moderate even when I had the 360 turned off.

This leads me to suggest that my router isn't releasing port 3074 (which is also used for XBL) when the 360 gets switched off.

Not sure what I can do to fix this.

On PC, make sure your firewall lets IW5MP.exe through as an exception.

Failing the router opening your ports you can put your PC into the "Demilitarized Zone" (DMZ) which opens all ports and directs them to your PC. This will diagnose whether it's your router or something else. If it stays as moderate with your pc in the DMZ then there's another firewall somewhere blocking your traffic.

I only have Windows Firewall active and it's letting iw5mp.exe through on public and private networks.

I've found that the FritzBox not releasing ports seems to be a common issue that's been present since firmware version 84.04.88 (I have firmware version 84.05.05).

I've opened a ticket with AVM about this. Hopefully they can help me out.

Seems the Moderate Nat is only effecting "Party" use.

IIRC, moderate allows you (generally) to host a party but open would be for the matchmaking host.

All depends on which ports get through, I guess.
