Instagram now on Android

Quite a few iPhone users aren't too happy though.

EDIT: Doesn't seem to be compatible with Android tablets for the moment.

Meh, majority of instagram photos are just douchbags who think they're being artsy. Its not. You're just a douche.

Am I right in saying Instagram was so hot on iOS because photo sharing is pretty limited in comparision to Android?

I don't think that has anything to do with it.
I have no issue sharing pictures via Twitter, Facebook, iCloud, Dropbox, email, MMS, iMessage etc.

I'd say it's more the hipster factor. Pre Instagram, Hipstamatic was popular but it cost money. Instagram came along and did the same thing but for free with a sharing element and the hipsters flocked to it.

I don't see the point. If I *really* want to take my fantastic camera and make the photos look ****, the filters are available in Camera+ for me :P

Not a hipster, still like using Instagram. :P
Some of the filters liven up some pictures and having them auto-tweet and accessable via the interweb is useful.
Plus it's fun to fiddle with while waiting at shops and stuff.

I also have plixi/lockerz and camera+ and powercam and phototoaster and probably other things I've forgotten. And can share via facebook/email etc.

Having Instagram on Android just lets more people in on the fun, in my opinion. Don't like it? Don't have to look at Instagram links. :P

In other news, Facebook (or more specifically Mark Zuckerberg) has acquired Instagram for a cool $1 billion

If you don't keep growing the bubble, it pops. Facebook will have a huge decline in value at some stage in the future I think, probably not too long after the IPO.

Growing the bubble is one thing, but for 1 billion? Surely there are better companies he could buy for 1bn

It's way too much money for a company of 13 people which is under 2 years old, for sure. But the value of the purchase isn't the product, the IP or the staff. It's more

a) Buying out a social media competitor which is growing very quickly and risks cutting into their market share.
b) A huge client list and all the associated data, which is Facebook's real goal. I'm sure all the Instagram pics will be funnelled through Facebook's facial recognition technology and merged into the Facebook data.
