Time for new phone!

Unread postby cyclobs » 3 Mar 12, 1:41 pm

Afternoon GONers,

So it's about time i got a new phone as i'm tired of using my sister's crappy old one and i want a smart phone. I certainly don't want an iphone, preferably something that supports android and has a pretty decent battery..

I'm not particularly keen on using touch pads so does anyone know of an smart phone that still has keyboards / keypads? or are they all 100% touch?

any suggestions? i was looking at samsungs and galaxys when i had a quick look through the tesltra shop. they looked pretty decent but i didn't play for very long.

all suggestions welcome (except iphones :58_68:)

Rumour has it the Galaxy S3 will be launched in April sometime. I'm gonna wait for that and see how it rates.

HTC released some stuff at the World Mobile Congress just now. Three new devices, the One X, V and S.

If you need one right now, the Galaxy S2 is still probably the way to go.

Wait for that imho!

However I have a Samsung Galaxy Nexus (as with a couple of other forum members), and I can't praise it enough. With that being said the Galaxy S2 is just as good at no doubt a cheaper price, it just doesn't come with ICS yet (although that is set to change in the near future).

Yeah, rocking a SGS2 after using Ericsson for the past decade and a bit. Very good quality and converted me to Samsumg. If you can wait for the new one maybe do that. Otherwise a def +1 for SGS2. Nexus are supposed to be nice, I haven't seen one yet to play with though. Also I think Blackberry still make keypad phones but that would mean no Android. AFAIK all droid phones are touch.

hmm damn, i was hoping there might be a couple floating around with android.. Don't particularly want to wait, I've been putting off getting a new phone for a while now and was hoping to pick one up in the next couple of weeks.

are we talking early April? any specs release yet? Might see if it's worth the wait or not

As good as the Galaxy S2 is, I'd wait for a 4G handset (not the Velocity).

4G isn't really a concern for me since i probably wont see it where i live in the next couple of years at least (being in the middle of no where)

would be nice for when i go to dubbo or somewhere for a weekend

edit: What's the battery life like on the G-S2?

This thread is relevant to my interests, i too am looking for an upgrade for my iPhone 3GS, looking to move to Android.

I was thinking Nexus but contract doesn't end for a couple more months, so maybe Samsung Galaxy S3 will be out :)

I took it out yesterday between 10am and midnight, using it for calls, text, some photos, and a little bit of internet and I still had 10% battery life when I got home to charge it.

When I use it at work I usually pump music for 5-6 hours and usually it fairs that well unless I'm constantly doing other stuff at the same time, then sometimes I'll drain the battery.

Sold my original desire about 3-4 weeks after buying it. Not sure about these days, but personally I think you should wait for the SGS3.

The HTC ChaCha is an Android phone with a keyboard. Personally I wouldn't recommend it though as it's got **** performance.

Then why mention it at all?

More rumours surrounding the S3 reckon there's a chance it won't be released in April. Go figure. :|
