End of Contract = New phone time

Unread postby mini15michael » 31 Jan 12, 8:17 am

Ok my Optus contract is running out in May. Whuch means I can re-sign with them in about March.

Now I like the look of the Motorola Razr and tge Nokua Lumia 800 (but it sounded under powered now).
But I was wondering if anyone has used either?

And any other advice on a good new phone would be helpful...

a. What do you use it for?
b. Battery life preferrable?
c. Do you want apps?
d. Reliability and stability?
e. Do you want simplicity?

If you answered yes to b, c and d then you would go an iPhone
If you answered yes to d and e then you would go the Lumia 800
If you answered yes to b and c then you would go the Razr
If you answered a with "As a phone, web browser and multimedia device" then go the Razr

But it depends what you have used in the past and what you think you might find easier to use.

Have currently got a Samsung Galaxy S, don't like iPhones. Have used them and prefer android.

As for your choices. I use it for web, phone and emails.

I want good battery, as the battery in the Galaxy is horrible!
And good camera, and good net browsing.

I hardly wstch videos, if ever. And i never lusten to music from it, although that might change.

The other phone I'm intrigued about is the Nexus S. Have heard positive things so far. But would like to hear some peoples opinions of it

Consider the SE Xperia Arc S if you're thinking about looks, best looking Android phone on the market at the moment (in my humble opinion of course ;)), decent battery life, excellent camera (Sony have always prioritised them) and support for Ice Cream Sandwich is ongoing @ Sony; I think they're in the Alpha stage of an ICS port.

If your main concern is battery life then consider rooting whatever phone you get, removing the bloatware (which speeds up your phone considerably and thus gives better performance), or even installing an AOSP (stock Android) or optimised Moto/Touchwiz/Sense ROM for best battery life. I'm running a 'Sense-less' version of Sense at the moment on my IncS and it's increased the battery life by a day in most cases.

Hmmm might have to look into rooting my galaxy in the mean time. Would love to remove the optus bloatware...

I do like the look of the se arc... But it doesn't have the dual core processor of the razr or nexus or galaxy s2... Only problem with it.

Fair enough. You wont be unhappy with the RAZR, great phone that and just about the best battery life you can get out of the box.

Have fun rooting and messing around with your SGS, it has a pretty large community over at xda with modding/support and all that.

Still not sure I am game to root the galaxy... Gotta look into it more...

And still like the Razr... But decision lies between it and the galaxy nexus now...

Make sure you find a phone that is confirmed as getting ICS if it hasn't got it already.

Yeah true, thanks for that tip.
I know the nexus comes with it, and motorola have said that it would be released early 2012 , so hopefully more info there soon.

If I had to chose between the Nexus and Razr.. I would go the Nexus and grab the extended battery, I'm reading people are getting nearly 20 hours of use on one charge. I'm considering one myself..

The Razr Maxx is supposed to be a nice update with good battery life too.

Make it a phone with ICS already.

A lot of people are still waiting for 2.3, even tho it was promised...
