Scratches on my Wildfire S :s

Unread postby HolyBumble » 24 Jan 12, 8:03 am

I've always been told that Android phones are unbreakable and unscratchable. Well, the impossible must have happened, as I have a few small scratches on my HTC Wildfire S. I don't know how I got them, as I've dropped my phone plenty of times without seeing a scratch but nether the less I still have some scratches.

What I'm looking for is some tricks to remove the scratches, or make them less visible. I know you can buy some scratch removal stuff from Amazon, but many people haven't had success. Any ideas?

A lot (most) of Android phones use Gorilla Glass or another reinforced composite, which can allow you to get away with not using a screen protector on your phone and not worry about scratches - but you still should! "Unbreakable" and "unscratchable" sound like marketing hyperbole. Android phones are usually all or partially plastic and this absorbs a lot of the shock from drops compared to the iPhones steel case, but that doesn't mean they're indestructable ;)

Depending if they're deep or hairline scratches you may not be able to do anything about them, short of buying a replacement screen or digitizer off eBay and replacing it. Either way, whack on a screen protector to prevent them growing or new ones appearing.

You can try using an abrasive cleaner like Brasso (a metal polish you can get from supermarkets). I have used this to polish scratches out of plastic devices before with some degree of success. However, you need a bit of time, patience and elbow grease for it to work, especially if the scratches are relatively deep.
