I use
Miui on my HTC Desire using the miui Kernel

FreeX10 on my SE X10 (but can't really call that a custom rom it's more of a customized save sate of a firmware)

I am now seriously considering running MIUI

Aftering seeing what it is ripped off from

I can't help but want to give it a go.

Brat do you know if I can use my current Recovery (latest ClockworkMod), do a ROM backup of my current setup and just dump MIUI on? I really don't want to go back to a older version of a recovery because that means a reflashing of a older Radio firmware too...

EDIT: Added a poll to the OP. Go go go!

I was the same, and hell my N1 is built for Customising. I suggest take your time and don't rush ;)

EDIT: Just failed quite amusingly with MIUI. Flashed the latest version (1.5.6), booted it up to find its in Chinese. Do some more reading. Install the latest language pack. Reboot and start to use MIUI. Some real wonky **** starts happening. Do more reading. Language pack is for previous version.

Turns out the latest version only hit about an hour ago so they obviously haven't had time to translate.

Restoring previous ROM to keep me going until translation of 1.5.6 is done (cannot believe its based off ASOP 2.3.4 . These guys are **** quick)

currently running CyanogenMod 7.0.2 and I'm actually gonna load up 7.0.3 tonight :D

this is all on my HTC Legend with 3 on the $29 cap with no handset charges, seriously awesome deal IMO haven't had any issues and its really quick once you get froyo or gingerbread on there (out of the box from 3 ran like ****).

Ooo, this sort of thread is definitely something I like to see :)

Currently running the BOYPPC Honeycomb (2.3.3) build on my HD2:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthr ... p=13458657

It's just a skin, so don't get too excited :P

Previous to that, I had a stock Nexus 1 Gingerbread build, and first tried out Android on an SD Cyanogenmod 7 build (this is when I was running WP7 on NAND).

Must say I did like the SD build. The font and things were smaller and you could fit a lot more onto the screen (even just in terms of notifications) - to my understanding this is specific to CGmod builds :(

Tempted to try out a rom with Sense as I haven't actually used it before. They're currently developing a Gingerbread compatible Sense build, but until that's stable / properly functional I'll make do with what I have :)

Rooted and installed CyanogenModRC7 on my Desire. WHY DIDN'T I DO THIS SOONER?!?!

I did have a problem with it not booting up, it'd get stuck on the cyanogenmod skateboarding droid, cleared the cache (forget which one, it's in the bootloader menu) and re-installed it, and that got it no worries.

Improved my battery life no end. I listen to music 8 hours of the day, before it'd drain the battery down to 20% after that, today it didn't even get half way.

Can anybody make a "complete noobs guide to rooting your phone"?

Seriously the only thing I want to do is be able to install stuff on my SD card, and not the bloody phone!

should be OK, I have a Legend and I followed the tutorial to root that on this website and figured it out no worries so I trust this will work just as well for your device.

as far as rooting it goes, its admittedly not for the faint hearted. You'll be fine but there most likely going to be some pretty scary moments where you have no idea what your phone is doing and are just hoping it turns back on :P

having said that, I had no idea what I was doing except for the instructions I had in front of me and the Legend requires one of the most lengthy rooting procedures and I was fine. Just make sure you read through the instructions a couple of times to make sure you know whats going on and follow them exactly and you can't go wrong.

EDIT: in other news, got cyanogen mod looking pretty OK. Not entirely happy with everything though :P

trying to stick to theme chooser themes which is restricting me a bit, plenty of great themes need porting across for sure.
