Question For Hydra

Unread postby Aasher » 7 Jun 12, 5:14 pm

So I thought I'd put this here since I very rarely am on minecraft at the same time as Hydra.

Last night, a few people and myself had a discussion about the new release of minecraft coming up and the fact that for us to see the benefits of the new features it'll probably be necessary for a new map to be generated.

Now while I am looking forward to being able to use the new features just as much as anybody else ... there was one major concern about a new map that I aired in game chat last night and it seemed many people had the same concern.
That being... quite a few of us have completed really complex and time consuming projects that we would love to be able to bring with us should there be a new map generated.

I suggested that it would be great to be allowed at least one project to be Cut and Pasted to any new map created, if we were to provide coordinates.
There were some suggestions from other people, including that they would love to see a few more that just one project per person be allowed to be carried over or ... there was one idea I really loved being:
If a new map was to be created, re-name the current [World] to something like [Old-World] and have the new map as the main [World].
That way, those of us who want to hang on to our projects, or like me, have been mining for weeks on end to save materials for a major project, can still keep all our efforts on a SMP Server.
If there was a problem of there being too many maps/worlds for the server to handle .. well ummm.. there happen to be two creative worlds ... of which it's mainly only the [Flatworld] that get's used...

Anyway, I won't go into a rant. I just think it would keep quite a few of us really happy if some sort of arrangement could be made.

Cheers,
Asher

Hydra has seen the post and assures me he will look into it and reply when he works it out, plus he currently has the man flu (man flu is 10000 times worse than any flu a female would get :P ) But he wants everyone to know he is not ignoring the question :)

Thank you for letting us know Murderess and thanks to Hydra for reading something while you have a flu. We all know how hard it is to do anything while we have a flu :-(
So I hope you get better and I won't drive you to make any decisions while you aren't well.

That's obviously an exaggeration ... it's only about 9,100 times worse in my opinion.

Hey,

I have recovered enough now to be able to work! It took many hours of laying around watching telly and what not but I made it.

Now, new minecraft, sounds like a plan. We can technically move old world content to a new world, but I wouldn't want the MC admins to be over worked moving things around! I guess we will start with a fresh set of worlds when the new release happens, and move the old worlds aside. We'll need a nice new spawn area with portals to the old worlds, once those plugins are working correctly of course. I'll probably set up the old worlds to be 'read only' so the admins can copy content out.

For now, don't worry about it too much, if you really want your structures moved I am sure someone can help out when the time comes.

Been off for a while so didn't get to respond to this :P

Nice to hear that you're feeling better Hydra!

Thanks also for the response, it sounds reasonable.
Also, you're right, of course it makes sense not to have every little cobblestone building and wooden hut transferred over, that would an excessive workload for the Admins.
I guess it would only be fair that really detailed projects that have had a lot of effort be moved and that's all I would hope could be done.

Cheers,
Asher
