Tales from Minecraft

Unread postby DarkMellie » 18 Mar 12, 10:10 pm

How does this thread not exist already? As if you wouldn't have a place to discuss random events on the GoN server!

So, my friend and I staked a claim out in a jungle biome about a day away from spawn (very sorry to the person who built the lovely two-storey + jetty right nearby).

We were digging and came across something I didn't even know existed. A massive, seemingly endless monster warren with its own timber supports, railway tracks and monster spawns.. along with vast tracts of coal, diamond, iron and gold.

Terribly scary place, we must have died 5 or 6 times each. Most of it isn't even in our demense so we're happily plundering as much as we can until it gets claimed.

It sure is a lot of fun to go exploring with friends.

Also a big thanks to MM and Giblet, you guys do an amazing and helpful job of adminning and the community on there are quite chatty and pleasant.

K, post.

What you and your friend came across was an abandoned mine shaft (http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Abandoned_Mine_Shaft)

These are really fun to explore when you want a change of something to do. I usually mine out all the ore and wood 1. because its profitable and 2. because it helps me from getting lost / confused as some of them are extremely long and often double back on themselves at a deeper level.

gratz on your good times / find

Jesus mother of god... the sights I've seen tonight... I'm just... I'm just...

...awestruck.

First up was Scruffy's place, who kindly offered to show me how to plant melons. I couldn't quite catch the vomitorium in-time, but here's the view from the ladder on the way down...

Image

Whilst there, I got the guided tour of the spectacular underground forest, to this glass, lava and water behemoth...

Image

Next up I went wool-gathering and came across this considerable mining operation...

Image

Then, after performing a scene from Game Of Thrones...

Image

I followed the random and INCREDIBLY LONG SKY RAILWAY to the incredible home of smokngoat...

Image

...which turned out to be just the front doorstep...

My hat is off to you Mr Goat... the hundreds or thousands of hours you've spent make your area one of the Wonders of the Minecraft world... although it would be nice if you had more minecarts, I got stuck at the Gamma Station stop with no cart :P

Incredible work people, even the main spawn area is filled with amazing things. Going back to my pauper's home is a little depressing after all that so I must plan for an epic build.

Thanks Mellie your kind words make me want to keep playing :)

As for the carts, I know... but without a major restructure I can't think of a good way for there to be carts available in the protected area. It's a pity Worldguard doesn't allow placing of carts.. maybe there's some technical/programming reason that makes it hard to allow placing carts without placing other blocks.

What's W/E? WorldEdit?

There's no world edit or creative in my worldguard area at all.

Thanks for the compliments DarkMellie!

Couple of small clarifications:-

It was sugarcane, not melons, and the forest isn't underground, it is just under/alongside/above my floating house.

The glass thing is currently a work-inprogress - it is a 51 block half-sphere, and will have 8 sections, alternating lava & water contained. On the top, there'll be either an observatory, or a wizard's tower (haven't quite made up my mind yet).

--

I've not seen your place as yet smokngoat - those screenshots of DarkMellie's certainly look impressive.

There's commands to do spheres in creative? Man, that would be useful.

Yes, I'm manually making a half-sphere. It's taken me about 4 days now, to do what is about 1/2 of just the sphere, including mining & cooking sand etc.

So, is it possible to use large scale editing on the server? That needs clearing up (I fervently hope the answer is no).

Also, Mingo3k's Skeleton Spawner and musical tower are so much fun to visit!

And Burkeh's giant Melon-made Spongebob is phenomenal to look at.
