Tekkit 3.1.2

Unread postby Hydra » 27 Feb 12, 12:02 pm

TEST server is up! Address: tekkit.games.on.net:6969

(I keep calling it test because the worlds get wiped when everything breaks)

NEW WORLDS!
The old ones were a bit too abused (griefers...).

We are using a block logging tool on this server - if you do something bad we will catch you!

LAUNCH TEKKIT, and not the other versions. TEKKIT is the SMP version!

Can't get into the server? Make sure you're using 3.1.2!! You might need to select dev builds in the techniclauncher. Maybe not.

Bolgimo put me on to this!!

It is Minecraft on steroids. There is so much more to do and learn, it's quite intense. You can build oil refineries, pump liquids around, mine uranium ore which can be used in a nuclear reactor... and yes the nuclear reactors can go a bit Chernobyl :)

There are SSP and SMP versions of the game, Tekkit is the SMP version. I am tempted to put up a test server, it's seriously complex and you will seemingly always have something new to build. It can be a bit daunting at first I guess, but the rewards are worth it.

You can build machines that will strip mine a 9x9 area, then afterwards a machine to back fill it with a material like stone or sand (or whatever). You can pump lakes dry, use a jetpack to fly around, even use solar panels and wind energy to power your creations.

I feel like I've only scratched the surface of what is possible.

Oh, Factions might be working.

From smokngoat:
FYI for everyone, Faction is working just great and it is patched so that EE won't bypass it. Which means, if you protect something, it should be totally protected.

And now with logging, if someone does find a way to break it, we will catch them...

Factions is very easy to use to claim land:

(now I hope I remember these commands correctly)

Type /f to find out about it, and try /f help 1,2,3,4 etc

/f create <faction name> -- creates your very own faction...

/f claim -- claims the chunk you are standing in - by default you can claim (I believe) 10 chunks, so make them count...

/f sc -- lets you see the chunk boundaries (you can also enable chunk boundaries grid in Rei's Minimap)

/f invite <playername> -- Invite your friend to join your faction..

/f join <faction-name> -- accept the invitation..

/f sethome -- essentially like the /sethome command on the Vanilla server - sets a home for your faction

/f home -- travel instantly to your home! woo

Don't abuse it. Don't claim land other people are clearly already in. Let's play nicely...

.

Seriously, looks bloody awesome. I'd gladly join a SMP server with this running.

OK, I have a pretty basic server running. I think you'll have permissions to do stuff by default, just walk away from the spawn area.

Server address: mc-1.games.on.net:6969

This is really not for Minecraft n00bs, there is A LOT more to learn.

I may have tested it already a bit on this "fresh" world with bolgimo, and I might have forgotten to refresh the water cells in my nuclear power plant... :)

please don't set off nukes too close to the spawn point, they leave craters 150+ blocks in diameter. feel free to fly out to some far-off place and go nuts.

obviously there's heaps of stuff in tekkit that's foreign to normal minecraft so here's the wikis to go to get info on the main mods in tekkit.

Industrial Craft 2
http://wiki.industrial-craft.net/index. ... =Main_Page
IC2 is all sorts of crazy machines based around power generated in 'EU' and delivered with wires of various types. starts out with furnaces that can make power and goes all the way up to managing your own nuclear reactor. power is used to power various machines.

BuildCraft
http://minecraftbuildcraft.wikia.com/wi ... craft_Wiki
BC adds oil wells and junk into the world and then has engines that run on oil and refined fuel to do lots of things. the coolest things about this is the pipes that transport everything, pipes can transfer items and blocks directly out of BC machines in and out of chests and furnaces and auto-craft workbenches. BC also has its own power system that gets transported around with power conductive pipes.

Redpower 2
http://integratedredstone.wikispaces.com/
Redpower makes redstone usable. you can make multiple colours of insulated wire and run it up walls and around corners without having to stuff around with finicky redstone torches and junk. it also has a crapload of single-tile circuits that replace the huge redstone circuits to do anything, like timers and logic gates and stuff.

ComputerCraft
http://computercraft.info/wiki/index.ph ... =Main_Page
CC adds programmable computers that run LUA scripts into minecraft. fully compatible with redpower, you can hook computers up to redpower cables to make them do useful things.

Forestry
http://forestry.sengir.net/wiki/index.php?action=home
compatible with BC and IC2, has a lot of stuff that automates farming stuff and turning into usable power and things.

Railcraft
http://railcraft.wikispaces.com/
Makes minecarts useful. can even turn them into elevators.

Equivalent Exchange
http://equivalentexchange.wikispaces.com/
this mod is insane and ads LOTS of OVERPOWERED CRAZY MAGIC ITEMS that do LOTS of OVERPOWERED MAGIC THINGS. it's seriously insane. magic bags of holding, magic rings that absorb junk and shoot lava and ice, magic tools that can mine out insane giant holes etc etc.

Worldedit
http://wiki.sk89q.com/wiki/WorldEdit
if you make a huge hole like i did, you'll probably need to know this stuff to fix it

NotEnoughItems
http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/909 ... ones-mods/
NEI is like TMI except with more stuff, can show you recipes and things. in non cheat mode you can use it to query items for their uses in recipes or how to craft them from recipes

Rei's Minimap
http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/482 ... ap-v30-01/
yeah

Inventory tweaks
http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/323 ... 140-mar-2/
automatically does stuff in your inventory

I will hopefully make some time to set this up properly with permissions and worldguard, and with that I think we should start a new world.

I encourage people to play it properly too - while having access to all the things IS fun, you'll always have something new to do if you play it legit.
