I wouldn't define Search and Destory as an obscure game mode. It's okay to bring personal notions of taste and value into the equation when you're justifying your own purchase of the map pack, but it's not okay for me to do it?

Maxpayne5th wrote:Like I've said before, in the case of the map pack, I got my $15 out of it. If you don't see the value in it, then thats fine, don't buy it. But don't complain if it turns out you now can't play the game because the choice was yours to turn away from it. I mean you don't complain about expansion packs (like BF2:SF or WoW:BC/WotLK/Cata) so why are you complaining on this?

I'm complanining because regardless of whether or not I buy the DLC, my favourite game mode servers are all dead or dying. You're completely ignoring what I've said. In the example I gave my most recent attempts to play on my favourite servers have all been torpedoed by the fact that the server loses most of its players when the rotation gets to DLC maps. If the population goes from 15 to 6 players, I'm not sure me staying in there and making it 7 will prevent the server from dying.

BF2's expansion packs (apart from SF for the extra unlocks) were virtually irrelevant, I recall playing SF a few times, but apart from that almost the entire Australian community just kept playing vanilla BF2. It's also a very outdated example from well before the era of paid DLC and doesn't serve ther discussion very well. I've never played WoW so I can't speak for that.

I'm quite content sitting on the fence, hanging my legs on whichever side I fancy.
I don't hate paid DLC, but in some cases I don't support it. Cosmetic DLC is fine by my books, as is singpleplayer DLC, depending on the pricetag.
BF3's meant to be a CoD-killer, but so far, I think it's doing a pretty poor job by announcing DLC map packs before the game is even released. People can justify Blops DLC mappacks because they provide new maps, but people despised the MW2 mappacks because they were recycled maps, yet we also have people frothing majorly over BF3 which is doing the exact same thing.
Sure, we knew DLC mappacks were always going to invade Blops, but they weren't announced before the game was even released...

Mind you, those have much greater value for their buck and add a plethora of new content. Some might argue that, but $15 for 5 maps is a little steep, especially when apparently mod tools are on the way.

And expansions do not =/= paid DLC mappacks.

Had a read of this yesterday.
Interesting points on both sides.

I purchased the First Strike pack a week ago, so far from playing each day when i get home from work - i've noticed the following:

- After joining a TDM/SND/DOM/CTF game, as soon as the first strike maps come round, the servers are losing at least 30% of the players. I went from a full server to 6 (3v3) players on DLC.
- Most of the First Strike maps favor snipers. As i believe vanilla maps had next to no sniper spots.
- Most players are still playing vanilla (24/7 Nuketown, 24/7 Firing Range)

Will be playing this weekend, so i may join better matches. But so far, i havnt seen the $15.00 value especially due to not many people having the DLC :(
